Toyo 888's what are they like?
Hey all just wondering what the 888's are like on the road. I have used semi slicks before but never 888's. Do they hum on the road? I am considering them for my next tyres but wonder if its worth driving them on the road and track.

Your better off having a street and track pair.
Semis are a pain in the a$$ on the street, they hum like Hilux on Mud terrains.
In the long term, 2 sets work out cheaper, trust me.

Had R888 on STI with super loud exhaust. Tyres still win!...trust me, its freaking annoying. Not sure if its any louder than any other semis..

Yes, Toyo Proxies R888 hum on the street. But they grip like no other street tyre.

D3G's, D01J's, RE55S all do it too. Only tyres that I've heard don't are the Kumho's V700's and I don't remember my A048's doing it but from memory either though I'm not sure if I ever drove on them anywhere..I think we had the trailor for the 5 trackdays they lasted.

Couldn't agree more. I couldn't see them lasting long at all as daily drivers either. I can barely stretch 10-12mths out of them with weekend driving only ie. trackdays, motorkhanas etc and driving to/from. Great tyre!

They are a competition tyre that is legal for the street, that doesn't make them a 'street tyre'
If you want to use them on the street, there is a price to be paid...
I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)

Anyone tried these over the 888? http://www.federaltire.com/en/html/pdet ... ine=3&ID=3 Can't seem to get the RS-R in Europe at the moment and really want to try them as I'm really impressed with the 595SS.

Another thing to think about (as anyone who has dríven to the track on their R-Specs know) is that they pick up anything that’s loose on the road and throw it up against the sides of your car. Be it stones, dead cats or pedestrians.
You know the effect that you get if you drive over a freshly laid course bitumen country road where the tar makes the blue metal stick to your tyres and then flings it up under the guards, that’s what happens all the time with R-Specs. They are a track tyre not an every day road tyre as greenMachine has said.

Perhaps if you hum a few bars I will know the tune...
