What a great day! Thanks for hosting Bruce, the company and the food were fantastic! It was also really good to learn some new things.

Fatty, I'm really disapointed we couldn't get your car running, hopefully it ends up being something simple we just overlooked...

thanks daz but the injectors are already at the workshop getting cleaned and tested.

if they prove to be faulty i might take you up on that offer tho, cheers.

yeah ben i was disappointed we couldn't get it running too, but i really appreciated all the effort that everyone put in, and all the brainstorming to hunt down or suggest potential issues.

I know, we were annoyingly close... The couple of times it fired and ran for a few seconds were really frustrating... You would think that after getting covered in its petrol (twice in your case) it would cut us some slack... Oh well, I'm sure you'll get it soon.

that bruce is a pretty smart fella, he had a think about it and worked out what it might be and where to look.... i'll let him explain as i'm ducking out for dinner and i'm already late.

all i'll say is, sometimes it's the little things that cause the biggest hassles......

I'd been thinking about it yesterday as well. There were a few more possibilities that we hadn't considered:

1. Oxygen starvation. There was not enough oxygen left in the garage. It had all been displaced by fuel vapour, methane and the gas fron incinerated or vaporised sausages. This could account for the confused input air temp sensor.

2. Seat warmer temp sensor. It was getting so cold after sunset that the ecu cut the fuel because it detected the drivers seat had not reached a safe operating temp.

3. Driver's breathalyser circuit. High reading on this sensor sent the ecu into safe mode, where it would only supply fuel when the car was pointed towards the nearest hospital or police station.

4. Volvo driver presence detector went into red zone when a Volvo 240 owner was in the backyard.

5. Paint polish detector gave invalid reading.

6. Undented bonnet.

That's why Bruce got it working! The Volvo owner left. :lol: :lol:

I can also testify that it had plenty of fuel, unless the fuel gauge also wasn't working. :roll:

Very glad to hear all is good. Those promising sounds were a torment.

Soooooo I have continued the dodgy day all by myself :cry:

Did a bit of googling and found a guy on the UK forum who had the exact same problem, car fires and runs for about 2-3 seconds then it dies. He tracked it down to a faulty ignition module. Had a bit of a look at the Fatty mobile and found a mess of wiring where someone has tapped into the loom presumably to fit a module to kill the ignition if someone pinches your car. Moved a few wires and found this.

After removing a couple of kilos of solder from the wires and the scotch lock I've soldered it all back together and put some heatshrink over the wiring.

Fire the car up and it runs for about 30 seconds and then dies :frown: Call Fatty and he tells me what wires to play with so we can bypass his aftermarket DFA, did that and it RUNS!!!!!!!!

Changed the fuel filter while I was at it and noticed the there was no bracket to hold the filter in place. Cut up some alloy and made a bracket with two cable ties to hold the filter in.
