When I asked about getting the OEM pads from Mazda I was told that they were only allowed to sell the "Mazda approved" ones in Aus now.

So I got mine from our friends at http://www.MX5parts.co.UK. They come with the shims and anti rattle clips too. Though when I bought mine they had trouble sourcing the front pads. From memory when the dollar was a bit better than it is now they were a similar price to what Mazda AUS were charging for the "Mazda approved" ones here without all the fitting bits.

Yeah Im using the ones from MX5 parts uk the REAL OEM stuff the pad is blue and comes with all the shims and clips etc and I'm happy with them for daily driving.

When I did change pads with the Mazda dealer I think they gave me bendex or some generic stuff.

i have to agree with bendix ulitmates, greatest pad i have used!

i have project mu at the front now and ferodos at the rear, they are chat compared the ultimates all round.

just got a my second set of pads for the front trw again
its a pain with the nc as you going in to brake shop they go through all the books and trw are it
got mine for $70.80 front
checked with mazda they want $180
tell them there dreaming

have to look in to qfm next time

Sorry all for digging up an old thread. Anywho, how are you NB8Bs finding the QFM pads? I'm upgrading from NB8A fronts with Bendix Ultimate to NB8B, unfortunately no Ultimates available in this size.
The rear will still be NA8/NB8A with Ultimate.

Contemplating QFM's but trying to get some feedback (bad experiences?) before jumping in, also what compounds do you recommend (A1RM or HPX) for a spirited daily driver? Having used Bendix Ultimates for so long I don't think I can go back to anything less, so leaning towards the A1RM atm.

Also heard that UK's Factory Mazda NB8B pads are very good, better compared to Aus deliver stock?

yeah I have the mx5 parts uk stock NB8B pads quite good gone though a set already in about 70 k km a bit dusty after a track day.

I got them because it came with all the shims and clips etc..

Just installed the NB8B front brakes using whatever pads that's there already, strangely I notice that there's no pads/disc separating springs? I've inspected the pads; unlike the NB8A, there's no hole on the NB8B pads for it, does this means there's no springs on the front of NB8B? Is this normal?

Description reads...
"This part has been discontinued by Mazda, but we feel the pads work better with it.

Locates into the holes in the pad backing plates of the front pads to help move the pads off the discs when you release the brakes.

4 springs per car.

Fit all Mk1 1. 1993>1998 amd all Mk2/2.5 with 255mm discs (not 1.8is models)"

So this confirms that NB8B with larger 270mm front brakes don't use front pad separating springs?

Well I fitted the ultimates on the NB8A, thanks to Daz btw, and all is well.

However one of the springs broke.

Are they required? even though the pads do have holes for them?

and what is the reason for the spring? - to seperate the pads whilst stationary?
