My car is in storage and I can't get to it atm, but I need to know how far apart the standard bolting points on the underside of the seats are. I'm looking at buying a mates Recaros but I want to have some idea of how hard its going to be to get them onto the rails.
So if anyone has a seat out of their car atm, could you please chuck a tape measure on them, sideways and lengthways.
Cheers

NA seat bracket measurements
I checked my NB brackets recently, I think they're the same.
Front to rear hole distances are 300mm (at least they are on the drivers side)
Drivers side hole width is ~350mm
Passenger side is ~330mm.
Numbers are off the top of my head though, so don't quote as gospel.

Double checked, numbers above are pretty much on it. I had 348mm side to side on the driver's seat, but there's a little wiggle room.
300mm front to rear on driver's seat.
~330mm side to side on passenger seat (front to rear unconfirmed).
Holes are 8mm diameter, with the front being slightly slotted lengthways (8x10mm) to allow for tolerances.

I swapped my stock driver's seat for a Sparco a few days ago so I have the old seat sitting in the attic and was able to quickly check the hole spacings. Can confirm that the NA seat has the same spacings as Matty's figures for the NB. I make it 350mm side to side, and 300mm front to back. I don't have any measurements for the passenger side though.

Finally got measurements for the Recaros from my friend
405mm sideways
260mm lengthways
So they would need brackets made to sorten the effective length and widen the mounting points
Is that difficult to do? They're old-school mesh headrest Recaros which I think ought to look ok in the 5, I've kind of gone off the idea of putting my Cobra fixed-back in as I think at my height and size and with how low my car is, it would make ingress and egress bloody annoying. The Recaros are also much taller than the standard seats, the top of the headrest is nowhere near high enough for me with the Mazda seats, and with the rollbar behind my head I think I'd like to have a correct height headrest
I think that might be the exact ones I'm looking at from the the ad that was up when my friend bought them
Pity they're not Spectrum pattern though, I've always wanted a set of those ever since dad's mate found an old pair in mint condition for his road/race TR6 years ago

Bought them. When I get my car back to somewhere I can access it I'll have to start looking at designing some brackets to bolt them to the floor, I want them as low as possible and don't particularly care about them being adjustable since I don't associate with short people.
The one bit I'm possibly concerned about is the way that the seatbelt buckle is bolted to the seat normally in the MX5 (I think anyway, its been a while since I've sat in the car)
In my mate's Mk3 Golf. I think that was originally the drivers side seat but he swapped them over so he could use the one with the better bolsters.
I'm thinking about getting quotes to have the damaged one rebuilt with bigger bolsters and then both reskinned. Would it be expensive to try and get it done in proper Recaro cloth?

Early NA seat belt buckles were attached to the floor not the seat, and the threaded hole is there on the tunnel in NAs and NBs so I am told, so you can go to your friendly wrecker and get a short 'stalk' mounted buckle to substitute quite legally. The NB buckles are mounted to the sea rail as well as the seat, so you could engineer them to fit if you were using the rails.
