Extractors & high flow cat for a 99 NB 1.8

My 99 exhaust isn't standard but I think it goes ...

Headers .. flange (join near firewall just after 02 sensor) .. secondarys ... flange .. cat ... flange .. mid pipe with resonator .. flange .. muffler

You can just make out the flange on the bottom of the headers in this photo

Thanks Okibi, that photo is great, of course now I want a polished rocker cover and inlet though !

They are the headers on mine.

I just called SMB and they just have the one system for all NB's so I'm not sure if that's OK as Philz said he thought the cat is located in a different position on a 99 to a 01. I'll have to do some more investigating and I'll call Town & Country today and see what they say as well.

Well if you get the whole system ie/ secondaries, midpipe, muffler, it will fit the 99 (because you are replacing the whole system.

However if you get the secondaries ONLY... then you will have two cats:

Secondaries + cat, flange, cat, resonator, flange, muffler.

I know 100% the 99' has a cat in the midpipe, because I have a 99.

I've spoken to SMB & Town & Country this morning and was really impressed by T & C, also the fact that their system incuding a steel cat fitted is only $930.00 whereas SMB is $1,637.00 parts only and $100.00 frieght makes them seem a great choice. I like the idea of supporting a local business too !!

I'm going to get the T & C system fitted (they only do steel cats now, no ceramics) on May 2nd so I'll let everyone know what I think of it.

I really appreciate the imput from yourself and everyone else, for a new member to the MX-5 Club and CarTalk this is a great avenue to help us enjoy our little cars and make friends at the same time !!

Can't wait to show everyone my car when it's finished, I got some Koni springs yesterday to lower it 35mm ($430 for the full set) and my 16 x 7.5 Momo Ferrari Engineering wheels will go on soon when it's all done

I am sure you will get a great deal of satisfaction from it.I don't know of anyone who hasn't been satisfied with the power or the sound.

You may want to consider getting a before and after dyno run done at Dalton automotive(see Vic Dyno day thread) as they are only 400 metres away and each run would only take about 15 mins.and cost $100 for both.
That way you will know what you have picked up.

Give me a call and I will try to call by and take you for a coffee while they do the job.

I just realised Stevesports nb8b had his system done by t&c, including hi flow cat so they must have replaced his secondary manifold as well. No wonder his car makes 90 rwkw! That makes sense now.

Actually I am pretty sure that they didn't ,so hope Stevesports can give us the info.I am now totally confused re the NB8B.Chris H had a T&C exhaust but kept the original cat.so that doesn't help.

We may try to have another dyno day in about Sept/Oct -hopefully get afew more to do the early morning run down the GOR.

When I spoke to T & C this morning they said you can just get their system from after the cat back, but I'm getting the steel hi flow cat as well, I'll let you know how they do it and if they change the secondary manifold as well.
