SuziTech quoted me $500 to custom fabricate an alloy shield coated with heat shield material beneath to cover the manifold, the turbo and the down pipe in my SP. I'm seriously considering it.
Is $500 too much to pay?
I saw the customer made airbox they made for Macuses and it look first rate.

Russel's version with a mod from me was a lot cheaper and it's doing the job on my car
Shiney black one with added red bits. Member of the fart club. Now with extra doof and Sunlong. - deceased and gone to heaven

I got that too, and it did work well. But it kept coming loose and hard to remove if you needed to check the bolts etc. The other thing I liked about Russell's version is it included a relocation of the passenger side front wheel brake line - away from the turbo.
This one is mounted not on the turbo itself and can be easily removed if need be and looks soooo much better. Though not sure if I'd like to pay that sort of money.

i fitted the race sheet to my cold air box and above the turbo on the underside of the bonnet. I also wrapped my heater hoses and lower radiator hose. My dump pipe is also wrapped in exhaust wrap for the first meter or so. have a look on my cardomain page for some pics.

Just and update on my car. Thermostat is being replaced. Aluminium undertray is going on.
Coolant reroute system as designed by Richard Larsen is going on.
Shroud/cover is being made for the turbo and insulated with ACL heat shield material.
If that doesn't fix the problem I intend shooting the car.

I'd try cermatic coating the turbo, no ugly shields all over the place.

From what I can gather from those who have seen what work as been done, it looks pretty good.
I, was going to HPC the dump pipe..
Can't wait to get the car back.

I'd be interested to see how others have designed their ACL heatshielding. I ended up coming up with a shape very similar to the FM heatshield. Dont have any pics on the car, but this is the shape im talking about:
Im going go pull it off sometime and have another go at it. One end of the shield is attached to the engine by the cam cover bolts, and the other end bolts to the chassis (i think its the hole used by the AFM when attached to the stock position). Im not really happy with this as it means the shield is subject to any engine movement. I'd like to come up with another solution so the shield is either mounted to the engine, or to the chassis (but not both).

On the Carco SP heat shield Russell fabricated some brackets that mount to the top turbo mounting bolts, one exhaust manifold bolt and a dump pipe bolt so the heat shield moves with the engine. The SP turbo is mounted lower than most MX5 turbo kits though so it may not work for you.
