yeah yeah.

I've been living with a lot of wind noise every time I get above ~80kmh. Has been the same ever since I got this MX, and I'd forgotten what my old MX sounded like.

I'd always assumed it was somehere along the header rail (eg the roof/header alignment). But I've eventually found it is due to the passenger side window seal where it meets the A pillar - it sticks out just a few mm, but enough to catch the air and make a huge racket. Laying some duct tape over it has made a massive difference! (but then I can't open the door)

The seal on the driver's side is quite recessed, and doesn't make any noise.

Is there a way to adjust the seal position? The only way that I can see is to actually bend in the side window frame, but that sounds a bit dangerous...

They are easy to bend, just wind the window down first, put your knee on the crash pad on top of the door card, grab hold of the top of the vent window and give it a firm tug, repeat as necessary. Failing that there is some adjustability at the bottom mounting point on the front window track, but I cant remember if it's just front to back or in and out as well.

I'm always amazed with garry's knowledge, I bet he had rebuilt his SP ground up by now :)

garry should have been an Engineer for SP Motorsports. Probably would have averted a lot of issues

I had a problem with water leaking in at the top of the A-pillar, and some gentle leaning on the top of the qtr light section resolved the issue. I suspect the problem is caused by someone pushing the car from that point, probably with the door open.

I've been around MX5's for 9 years and have done work on NA6's, my NA8, NB8A's, NB8B's, my SP and NC's. So I've encountered quite a few MX5 issues.

My NA8 had the same issue as Matty as well as my mates NA6. Luckily my dad's new VC Commodore did as well. He complained about it under warranty and they sent him to a panel beater. The panel beater opened the door, wound down the window, grabbed the window frame with his knee against the door card and gave it a swift tug. Problem solved. A bit crude maybe, but effective.

A similar method works for bonnets. After a useless Mazda dealer that I no longer frequent reinstalled the engine in the SP the bonnet was way out of alignment. I went to visit Mick at Hume Smash Repairs. He played around with the hinge adjustment but couldn't quite get it right, so he grabbed the bonnet and man handled it into where it should be. Perfect alignment.

Done. Wow. Can't believe it took me a year to figure out something was wrong...
