Hi Guys, wondered if anyone could shed some light on this issue i have.
I have recently purchased an MX-5 2005 limited edition (only 2months ago from a garage in Sydney) and have been thrilled to bits with it , however the last 2days a warning light has come on the dashboard, (the yellow engine one that says to contact Mazda ) so i took it for its 50,000km service today and asked them to look at the warning light fault.
On picking the car up from the garage, they informed me that the fault was due to a faulty front oxygen sensor and that to replace would cost $468.80!!!! and $100 on top for fitting..!!!!
The guy at Mazda said that the car will still run properly, but i could have poor fuel economy!
Is this all the sesor is doing??? And will it have any other issues for me later on down the track?
How long do these sensors last???
Is there an aftermarket one for the NC model???
As you can see i am a little puzzled as to why something like this cost $468.80!!!!
Appreciate any advice guys,
(ps - I have put this onto another section so apologizes if you have read this twice!! )

wow. thats a lot of money ... i bought a bosch oxygen sensor for my NA from repco this weekend, cost $72
it's just a generic bosch unit. visit your local repco and ask if they have a bosch that's suitbale for the NC... unless this has any warranty implications

I understand from your post that the oxygen sensor problem is the opinion of a Mazda dealer. How many km has the car done? Mazda parts prices can be at times. Is it worth getting a second opinion? Check all the wiring plugs you can see near the engine are securely connected. Answered in "engines & transmissions area" also.

Hi mate, yes that's what they have told me today. The car has only done 50,000kms, surely it should last more than this!!!
A second opinion wouldn't be a bad idea. Would a normal garage be able to tell this though or would i have to take it to another Mazda dealership?
I will also check the wiring and plugs myself.
Appreciate your help mate.
