wheel studs - how to replace

I am thinking of installing longer wheels studs. I have read on the big forum about grinding things and am not comfortable grinding my hubs. could anyone give me some tips/instructions on how to remove old and install new wheel studs? thanks.

Use a hammer and bang it out.

To install, put an open nut on the stud, use an impact wrench to "tighten the nut", which will pull the stud in.

btw, google has alot of information.

thanks mate - so i don't need to notch the hub - it will pop out the back on both front a rear hubs?

When you bang it out you may want to get an aligment again.
Easy to do on mx5 we dont have drum breaks.

Notching hubs - WTF???? Use a hammer to remove and replace. As long as the studs are the correct ones and you line up the splines with the studs square in the hub, 3 taps with a hammer is all you need to seat them properly. I use copper to cover my vise so the hubs don't get marked. And you will not need a wheel alignment unless you move your camber bolts - NFI why you'd need to when replacing studs though..... :?:

I will be replacing a broken stud today and take some pics.

I know the op wants longer studs for offset rediciolus wheels.
I want to install the short studs where only one or maybe two threads are exposed for the lug nut (saving weight).
But the process to install should be the same.
Last time this was done knocking it out with a hammer made the alignment toe out a lot but did not do anything to camber.

you need at least 7 full turns to get the required torque for the wheel nuts or you will be losing a wheel pretty quick.

Doesn't sound like a good idea....For insurance purposes as well as safety....Then again we don't live in the same state =D
