TEIN vs Gaz

Postby OMClarke » Mon Apr 20, 2009 2:07 am

Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone runs the Gaz Performance Coilovers from mx5mania (http://www.mx5mania.com/product1565.htm)?

I was tossing up between these and the TEIN Type Basic Coilover Kit (http://stores.channeladvisor.com/access ... B8C%20NA8C).

I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to suspension, but want something that will be good for every day driving. Having said this, I don't really mind if the ride is firm.

Cheers!
Ollie

I would go the GAZ coilovers over the Teins. The GAZ have adjustable damper for bump and rebound, and the entire shock body is threaded, so you can get alot lower than the Teins. The Teins that are just basic shocks that you can adjust your height up and down. I don't even thing you can adjust dampening at all.

I would pay the little extra and get the GAZ, they look better.

Here is another place you should look at ordering them from, they are currently out of stock, but they should get sets in soon. You will save a bit of cash ordering from UK..

http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info.php/products_id/1066

It works out to be:

Goods:€479.68
Del.:€148.12
To Pay: €627.80

Which works out to, 627.80 EUR = 1,137.94 AUD delivered to your house, a saving of $262.06 over MX5 Mania...

I think im going to get myself a set, with the Krudd money.

*EDIT* Having said all this though, I have been reading up and a few people have been having issues with the Gaz coilovers..

Having the whole body threaded is useless if (for example) the perch starts interfering with the driveshaft.
Adjustability is only good if it retains a decent damping curve.
Coilovers are only good value if they come with good spring rates that suit your goals. (from what I've seen, neither option would satisfy me)
I wouldn't buy coilovers on how they look.
Teins have a reasonable track record, GAZ are a but of an unknown quantity.

In a nutshell, there is a lot more to picking a coilover setup than what features it has.

Have you factored in GST and duty on that? prepare for another ~25% reaming...

Wow, so they finally bring in the HSD coilovers for the mx5.

NA coilovers work on NB and vice versa.
