This sounds a bit weird but I know all about NA's but the NB's still confuse me a bit...
So the secretary at work ran up the back of someone a week ago on her way to work.....
She has an NB8A but wants to put either 2002 or 2004 SE headlights/bumper etc to make it look better.....so she gave my phone number to the panel beater..... (note is the bonnet different too ?)
So we know the front bumper and reinforcemnt are different NB8A onwards....but where the parts guys at Mazda are being difficult is trying to identify the headlights and part number setc - the keep demanded a VIN to look up...but had no problem with bumper facia etc - go figure
Ok - now here is where i get a bit confused - how many variations of headlights are there and what are the part numbers .... is what I have below correct..
2002 - NB8B - projector style
2003/04 - NB8C ? - projector style but different to NB8B 2002
2003/2004 SE - NB8C? SE - projector style like 03/04 above but with tinted lens and/or surrond ?
IS this correct or am I off the track completely.
Does anyone have the LH and RH headlight part numbers for the above 2 ro 3 differnt models
Or how can i tell the differnece in models if I look up VINS on ebay - should the 2 or 3 models have something in the VINS like NBxxxxP3SE or something
Any help greatly appreciated

NB8B/NB8C/SE Headlights - help please
How much is she getting quoted at Mazda for each headlight? (more of curiousity question for my sake)
NB8B same as BC
And there is SE
Bonnet and guards are the same, front bumper is different, also some inner trimmings (wheel well) for the front bumper is different.
edit: Also a note the wiring for the NB8A and B is different, so if you wire it up.... the highbeams will only work indepedantly, meaning when you use the highbeams it will turn off the lowbeams, instead of working together, but it's not such a big deal for city driving.

NB8B/NB8C/SE Headlights - help please
Thanks guys.....so it looks like we have to choose between 2 types - standard NB8B/C with projector OR the NB8C SE with projector and tinted lens.
Price wise dont know yet cause Mazda wont quote until they get a VIN - they told the panel beater that they only list the one with the self levelling module in it - sounds weird more like something on the NC and the parts guy just being lazy and difficult - this one was $760 but he would not quote part number without a VIN - geez this is hard.
If anyone can point me to a VIN number - or even a parts listing I can quote VIN or part numbers and work it out from there.
SO I found this supposed SE on ebay with VIN JMONB30P400202 http://cgi.ebay.com.au/2004-Mazda-MX5-SE-Soft-Top-low-klms-Immaculate-cond_W0QQitemZ190300172745QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Cars?hash=item190300172745&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A1|39%3A1|240%3A1318
I also found 2002-2004 NB on carsales but no VINS - but I gather that NB8C is NB30P4 and NB8B is NB30P3 in the VIN, but does the SE have anything special in the VIN ???
Once again any help appreciated - or if you have a link or parts list for NB I can sort it out...
Thanks

8A 8B etc that will get you no where with Mazda -these are made up designations. The VIN is what you have to quote but I can understand that people do not want to give out their VIN. I can tell you that an 01 VVT model has a VIN prefix of JMONB30P2 and I would suggest that the A is P1 and the C is P3 but someone else needs to lift the bonnet to verify. One of the sponsors as suggested might be able assist in interchangeability and different bumper profiles and openings could be a tricky situation.

Benny has had this conversion done to this NB8B (i.e. fitting SE lights). The only change that MX5 Mania had to do was to splice the NB8B globe plugs and replace them with the SE plugs. They work just like normal NB8B lights (i.e. Low beam remains on, when using Hi-Beam).

But she has an NB8A, so it won't work together.

Ooops! My bad.
Here's a club member's NB8A that had the NB8B conversion done. I believe all that needed changing where the headlights (incl wiring) and the front bumper. He also used an off the shelf fog lights from Supercheap Auto - no name brand. They're slightly bigger than the OEM fog lights but not too noticeable on its own. It was done really well. The only reason I noticed it was different was the slightly bigger fog lights.

NB8B/NB8C/SE Headlights - help please
Thanks everyone for the tips - especially the wiring etc....
What I really need though is part numbers of 8B/C and SE headlights to get the rpoject off the ground - otherwise it will be a 8A front again.
Unfortunately panel beaters are impatient sometime, and insurance companies want to get the job settled - so early next week I hope to have the part numbers to appease the masses.
i am not doing the job - just trying to identify correct part numbers for ordering.

Call the parts department of a Mazda dealer near you. They should be able to tell you the part number you need. If the dealers can't help, give Ajay or Simone at MX5 Mania a call, they should be able to help.

NB8B, C and SE lights are the same, bu tthe SE lights have a black chrome background and use different bulbs and connectors.
As Hammer said, I have changed my NB8B lights for SE's, but all I did was fit normal spade connectors on the end fo the headlight wires and just plugged them in.
As far as I know, the NB8a lights are a doifferent shape and would need to front fascia changes.
Not sure about the bonnet though, but I would imagine them to be the same.
