I've got both Australian and Taiwan made Sidchrome, and to be honest I can't tell the difference.
And since I don't use my tools everyday, maybe every 1-2 weeks on the weekend, they do the job fine.
Yes they are still lifetime warranty... but instead of just handing the broken tool over and getting an immediate replacement (when it was made in Australia), you have to give the shop the broken tool, an inspector comes in every 2 weeks checks the broken tool and decides whether they will replace it or not... well that's what my shop told me.

For those wanting to know, Repco spanners, wrenches, ratchets, etc are mad by Kincrome and have a lifetime replacement warranty. Since they are stamped with "Repco", all you have to do is bring in the broken tool and it is replaced on the spot, without receipt.
Well i started late today as i slept in and then decied to sleep in some more so i didn't get a move on until 4ish. All went smoothly except for this one b!tch of a bolt on the PPF. My breaker bar just wasn't cutting it so i stuck a piece of aluminium tube over the end to create a 1m long length which finally cracked the sucker. Everything was proceeding nicely, i hadn't had any big hiccups and had burnt through an entire mozzie coil and it was time to lower the gearbox down for its removal. I really had a good laugh at what happened next. I forgot to drain the oil in the box so when i lowered it down, guess where it all went? Yep, I had a nice thick coating of Castrol all over my face
So i called it a night and showered. Tomorrow i'll get the box out and cleaned up.
Oh, i also discovered a large hairy Huntsman spider behind the cat heat shield. I freaked out something shocking, smacked my head on something then did the whole giggle dance in the garage
As you have probably gathered, i don't get along well with big hairy spiders. I also found a wasp nest but it wasn't in use.

pics or ban
I've sure stitches were needed for head wounds inflicted under cars over the years, but i was too chicken to go to the docs
My first datsun needed 5 gearboxes over its life in my hands.
On stands and a jack, i got it down to an hour twenty job.

Well this is going fantastic! I got the box out today and was in the process of taking the flywheel off when i heard this massive crack. It scared the living daylights out of me. I got out from under the car to discover a massive gum tree resting on mums Corolla. I tell you, there's never a dull day here! I have to get the chainsaw out now so will have pics up tonight. Sheesh

The gearbox came out this morning without a hitch and the clutch followed soon after. The gearbox was rather oily/filthy inside and out so i gave it a good scrub and degrease to clean it up a bit.

I then got to work on the flywheel and then this happened (i'm not sure why mum parked it out on the street):

Why a tree would decide to fall over on a sunny day with no wind is beyond me. It pushed the roof in and left some nasty scratches on the paint. I managed to persuade the roof back into shape but the scratches will need to be looked at as some scratches are down to the metal.
Personally, i have a lot of respect for the early Corollas. I think they're a fantastic little car; they're good on fuel, go a million miles and the earlier ones are RWD. Mum's Rolla happens to be the rather rare '92 GTi model
which up until 3 years ago, the local Toyota Service Center had never even heard of
It's got 310,000km on the clock and is still going strong. They even raced them at Bathurst back in the day! Having said that, it will be up for sale in a week or so so if you're interested in the Mightiest of Rollas, then shoot me a PM.
Anyway, after chopping up the tree i got back to work on the five. The flywheel was a tough cookie and after calling it a Dog, Pig, #@**, $#*^, @%!~, @%@%, #%^%^$ !#@# !#^%$%$!!@#!@~#%#@$% it eventually gave way. Unfortunately the process made my neck have a weird spasm so that every time i looked left, a muscle would randomly start twitching. Very annoying.
I then got to work on cleaning up the turret. The gearstick had always felt as though the right spring was broken as it was all floppy whenever i shifted left. I checked both springs and to my surprise they were both fine. I then took the casing off the turret and discovered the problem. The plastic cap on the end of the shifter had broken into about 50 pieces! The turret then got a good clean to remove all the crap stuck inside. I've heard you can get brass replacement caps? Where from? How much?

And that's pretty much where i'm up to now. I left it at that because i had to spend some time on a job application this afternoon. I'll be pulling the gearbox casing apart this week and resealing it, ready for installation next weekend. Actually, next weekend is going to be a double clutch install for me as my mate, who also happens to own a '91 BRG LE, needs his clutch attended to so we are doing that after we finish up with mine.
Jimmy.

Ummmm what the? When i said i called the flywheel a Dog, and a P I G, for some reason the forum is automatically changed the word P I G (no spaces) to "cop"???? I then went to double check what i had written and it said P I G, not cop. Admins, are you aware?

Nice work...
The old rollas are very nice...the AE92/93 GTI's, and SX Seca's had the smallport 16v 4age, excellent motor. I had heavily modified version of that motor in my old AE86, it came out of a rally car up in Sydney... It was very quick.
If you want rare try find yourself a AE92 FX-GT Corolla, it is the very rare 2 door version of the GTI. They used the FX-GT back in the day to race, never the GTI.
Here is a pic for you.

As for the brass shift cap, Beatrush make them. Here is the link for you.. $23 plus $23 shipping
better just getting a standard one from mazda.

I wasn't saying the Corolla was crappy, I meant it was crappy that it got crushed. I always wanted a twinky...
A little off topic but whats the go with your front "number plate"? Legal? Issued through the gov?

Ah yes, my apologies, the Mighty Two-door! Were they sold in Australia? If so, do you happen to know how many? I was under the presumption they were imported. Superb car none the less.
My front number plate..... is a sticker. Legal: No. I’ve been pulled over numerous times for random breath testing and haven't heard a word about it from them. I've even had a cop sitting next to me at the lights looking at it and he didn't say anything. That doesn't mean i won't get done for it though. My days are very much numbered. It's just a case of me thinking it looks better than the normal slimline plate. For major car events, i put my proper number plate on to keep the majority happy.
