Colours Of MX5s

Postby Cruisin Newy » Mon Apr 13, 2009 10:21 am

Hi all,

In my hunt for the MX5 i have seen many and in varying conditions (poor MX5 s ill treated) and in good condition and in very poor condition, but my quest is to see which colour is the most desired.

Ive a few RED ones everyone wants

Ive seen BRG GREEN colour plenty of them.

Another is silver seems to be a good basic colour

A hard to look BLACK colour that shows up everthing.

Giraffe spotted GOLD with lots of paint repair touch ups

Similar to black the DARK BLUE shows up the bad scratches

The only one which i am going to have alook at is the WHITE ones but seems to be a non sort colour why.

The colours is there any reason why ones choose a colour to another , Maybe this has been discussed B4

Cheers
Mark

Colour is about as personal and subjective as you can get in my mind. So here is my opinion, but take all of this with a grain of salt and then find something that you like.

I'm trying to be as honest as I can here, so please don't take my preferences in colour as a dig on you or your car. Also my lack of discussion about the NC here isn't a stab at the model, just the 72 shades of grey that Mazda released it in. I'm sure more people will buy some interesting coloured NC2's, but I haven't seen any in the metal yet so I can't comment.

I feel that it really depends on the model. I love the NB in a clean crisp white, but the NA in white just doesn't seem to do it for me. Maybe I've seen to many faded off white NA's and have been scared off, or maybe they are just a little too common for me.

Red is the same. It can look nice when its crisp, but they are too common as an NA for me. An NB would be fine.

I've never liked silver or gold on cars in general and the MX5 is no exception.

I vastly prefer BRG on an NA, not really sure why. Still not really a fan of greens in general so probably wouldn't have it even on an NA.

The assortment of blue's are really the only other colours I'd have. Dark blue works so damn well on almost any car, and the brighter blue (that I think I've only seen on NA's) is just plain awesome.

edit: Yellow is my other favourite choice. Can't say if I'd give up the black for it, but I'd certainly consider it. It is a beautiful colour.

And lastly, Brilliant Black was correctly named. Yes it shows up dirt and scratches like no tomorrow, but I still love it. Washing once a fortnight is a small price to pay :)

Basically what I think my colour preferences boil down to after all of that, is I want it to both look good and to be exclusive. The fact that the NA was only released in a few colours at first, fairly well killed those colours for me. Yet I feel that those same colours work so well on an NB.

Are you looking to buy an MX-5 now? If so, which model are you interested in? Before discussing popular colours, it's probably best to know what model of car you are referring too. Reason being is that each model has come out in different colours AND the colours of each model differ in preference based on what they came out in!

For eg you'll see heaps of red and white NAs and for an NB you'll see heaps in Grace Green.

One blue color you may have over looked is Laguna Blue. My NA is Laguna blue, havent seen another one on the road yet. Did this color come out for later models?

Hi all,

With the colours the last post with the info is great stuff.

I am looking at the 98-99-00 NB P1 series or if within price budget a NBP2. My goal is under 100kms and in pristine condition which they are around just have to be patient.

Cheers

Colour certainly is an individual choice. Practicality may not even play a role. Buying secondhand does not give you automatic choice and some would agree that the condition of the vehicle has more importance than locking into colour being the criteria.

If you want a white NB, then you'll not have much too choose from. Only 103 brought in from 98-05 so Mazda told me when I enquired a few months back.

yes, exactly.

my original preference was for neutral shades such as White, Black, or silver.

then my Twilight Blue came up for sale in great condition, so I bought it.
I'm actually happier now that I bought a more interesting colour!

I must say the white duco hides alot of imperfections. After nearly 3 weeks, I find myself going past the car and thinking 'WTF, was that there before????' lots of small little blemishes.. well by lots I mean about 5 over the whole car. Paint needs a good polish. I'd like to find that stuff green-comet used.

It really does come down to personal preferences. Next time around, no way on earth was I getting another Grace Green. The NB8B in GG drove me crazy, couldn't keep it clean at all. Was very frustrating.... black is a never ever colour for me.
