I know, i know... its an ebay turbo... Considering getting it with the mindset that if anything goes bang it gets replaced, if its reliable it stays.
Am i insane? I don't mind having to replace a few things down the line, as long as its not total crap...

Figured that would be the response!
What is the weak point of a kit like that, as in whats the bit you'd be MOST scared of?

It doesn't look like one of those "generic" turbo kits.
However that turbo is a Garrett T28 I doubt it's going to explode, the weak link looks like the manifold and cooler.

Surely its a knock off T28.
I think you might find its a "Garret Torbocharger" as on teh front page of http://www.miataturbo.net/
I know there is a huge stigma around ebay turbos, but i want to know if anyone knows anything, and if it might be worth using as a basis, only replacing the crappy stuff, and keeping what proves to be not sh*t
In the end a lot of it (or all of it!) may get replaced (if needed), but im all for trying it out and finding whats bad.. is it worth a go? or should i just plonk down $4k or so on a proper kit (in about 6 months when i have that much )

Yes I was skeptical on that turbo as well, China can fake anything now.
Yes spend the extra dosh on a proper kit, or go s/c

i was considering this myself, however there are too many things in that kit that i am not happy with. Just build your own kit or try source a used AVO kit.

I can see where you're coming from Daffy. If you get 1-2 years out of the chinaturbo before it grenades, them you can just replace with a cheap 2nd hand Nissan one. If the cooler leaks/cracks, you can just reach inside the front bumper and replace it with another $150 one. But the manifold would be the thing i'd be most concerned about. From all reports the thin wall chinese manifolds can start cracking within months. And unless you're triple jointed and enjoy S&M in you're spare time, removing and bolting in turbo manifolds on a regular basis isnt my idea of fun.

How is the EGR routed on that setup. The outlets from each tuned length? onto the flange look horrendous.

don't forget that when the chinee lipoff go bangboombang, that bits of it may be ingested by your quality Japanese engine & that CAN get bloody expensive.
Don't worry about what people think, they don't do it very often
