Worn crank keyway - on a 1.8L!

Postby cshaks » Fri Apr 10, 2009 4:18 pm

I had the same problem with mine, managed to repair the keyway, as it wasn't quite as badly deformed as that.
We ended up using a piece of alloy in the shape of the key to serve as a blank, welded the nose until there was enough there to die grind it back the the correct profile.
It seems to have fixed the problem well enough.
We also replaced everything forward of the crank nose.
