Bluetooth head units

Hey guys, i have been thinking about getting bluetooth head units(one for me and trasurer)of some description with uncle Kev's bonus.

Is anyone running something like this in their 5? how good are they when cruising top down/100kph?

There are several brands around that have bluetooth built in, but i was actually thinking about buying the generic Jaycar unit

its a little echo'ie with the top down but seems to be doing the job

I've got a JVC BT22 as well. I've been mostly happy with it. Bluetooth works well although people on the other end often complain it's noisy if I'm chatting with the roof down. I think that may be a problem with most hands free kits though.

I find that the sound quality is better in the Pioneer as it has 4v Pre-Outs as a pose to 2.5 volts in the kenwood but if your not running an amplifier then it won't matter.

If your just going to run them standalone then they should both sound very similar.

Bluetooth is a different story. The quality of a call on the pioneer is shocking with pretty much everyone complaining of feedback or background noise whereas the quality of the Kenwood is fantastic without most people knowing i'm on handsfree, I think this is because Pioneer has implemented their own bluetooth? whereas Kenwood actually use a Parrot bluetooth unit.

As a bonus, both units come with built in USB and iPod connectivity. The Pioneer comes with the iPod/USB cable whereas the Kenwood you need to get the iPod/USB cable (I don't have an iPOD so can't comment but ur supposed to have full control).

and some alpine kevlar 6.5 splits(the guy a ricebarn says they don't make em anymore), all hooked up to a cheap and nasty sony head unit. By the state of the area where the head unit is it looks like the car may have been broken into in the past and this is the cheapo replacment.

The amp and speakers are great, but the head unit is chuck in the bin job.

So, is anyone out there using one of those Jaycar head units?

I have one with BT.

I find you have to position the mic close otherwise pplz cant hear you properly espeically when the top down in traffic or when your going >70kmph...

You can overcome the issue with a larger mic from tandy etc.

You can use the HU to dial a number but it takes too long; so you still have to pick up the phone and dial/select the number to call but I dont like to make calls when I drive.

When you recive a call all I get is the number displayed on the HU not the actual person's name and photo like I do on the phone.

The music automatically goes to mute when your talking. The ringtone on the phone is what you hear though the speakers (good to figure out who is calling you sometimes espeically you can can't remember who's number is what).

When BT option is always switched on the phone's battery dies a day faster than usual so you charge the phone more often.

It has probably saved me a fine I think its worthwhile getting.

The JVC (and I had assumed most others) will let you load your phonebook (or selected contacts) onto the head unit. This makes it somewhat easier to make calls (you still have to scroll though the list though) and allows the name of incoming callers to be shown.
