Hey guys,
Stupid question time.
I've been looking at late '93 MX5 with an 1.8 litre engine. I read that all '94 onwards cars had the bigger brakes but would the car I'm looking at have the same brakes?
Is it easy to distinguish between the two?
Thanks, Paul.
Do all NA8s have the bigger brakes?

not a silly question at all. You're probably reading yanky sites who run a year ahead of themselves. Thier 94 model is actually a 1993 build. Its a bit like the way they write thier dates month/day/year & still don't understand what a metric system is all about.
However as far as I remember bigger brakes were added to the NA8 mid 1993

the NA8 shares the same brakes as the NB8A, so if it has a 1.8litre from factory, it will have the bigger brakes.

afaik , only na6's have the smaller brakes. if it's an na8, it'll have the bigger brakes, which were carried thru on the nb8a, and then the brakes got bigger again on the nb8b.
if you're really worried about, just measure the disc to confirm. altho, you can pretty much tell the difference, just by looking at them.

Thanks guys,
It's actually a NZ personal import that has been complianced over here, so the VIN is a bit confusing are hard to check.
It has the 1.8 litre engine, but being a '93 model, I just wanted to check on the brakes.

I would think that it was a Japanese import into NZ (not by Mazda NZ) and then shipped to Aus. Given the great variety of MX-5s imported into NZ, including 1.6L NBs I would measure the brake disks to confirm.

Yeah, I measured the rotors and it has the 255mm front and 250mm rear rotors so it's all good
