Some nice volk nuts for sale the guy says they are 0.8 oz thats only 22.6796185 grams. Apparently they are the 'long ones' so if you angle grind them down they have potential to be less than 20 grams per nut.

So saving 40 grams per wheel, all rotational unsprung weight savings it simply can't be compared to static weight savings.

Nengun says RAYs wheel nuts are around 23g. If I had the equipment I'd weigh up one of mine and confirm

However, not cheap. Nengun again says $204.51 per pack of 20 delivered to Sydney. This is assuming that they are compatible with the rims, rather expensive exercise if they aren't.

Whats the grade of the aluminum they use for the rays nuts? Im looking for a 4 digit number hopefully starting with the number 7.

The normal rays one is made of duraluminium

Volk Racing Formula are Aluminium 7075

Lug nuts confuse me Some have a huge tip. Normal lug nuts aren't like that...How are those suppose to fit?

aftermarket lug nuts are designed to fit aftermarket wheels. generally, you can't use a aftermarket lug nuts with stock wheels or stock lug nuts with aftermarket wheels.

Well it varies.

It depends if the seat face is Tapered or spherical.

Aftermarket are generally Tapered, and wheels are designed for tapered.

Honda uses Spherical, and as colour lug nuts are Honda modifiers common mod, it is frowned when they use stock wheels with aftermarket lugs.

However mazdas/mx5s are tapered, which are the same as aftermarket so it's okay to use.

What brand of nuts you got there Wun?

I must say Volks nuts is way overpriced...plenty of cheaper taiwan/ china brand that is also as light and as good.
Personally I got McGard, not as light but the key is very rare and specific to McGard...so hopefully will be safer.

But in saying that, The normal short nut rays are duraluminium grade 2***



The Racing formula ones are grade a7075 on the tapered head only.

It's in Japanese, not that I know what it saying, the pic is for reference of the different ray nuts.

One is Duraluminium, the other is Chrome Vanadium + aluminum (a7075).

Duraluminium (mixture of copper and magnesium etc) is much more softer compared to normal aluminum, but it keeps the weight down to 22g each.

7075 is the highest strength in aluminium alloys.

Sorry confused people. AB7 asked what my nuts were and I dont know because the writing on them is in chinese.

I know a friend of mine got these nuts for only $85 dollars they are also 7075.

A bit of the paint comes off as you tighten them, but I would rather have the nut tight than wheel falls off.

I might weigh one of them one day if anyone is intereted (would be deeply cut if its lighter than mine)

I think its cheaper because you only get 16 nuts instead of 20 nuts.
