I had 2 L all up. Buy at least 3L...... gives you room for error & the learning curve.

make sure you have heaps of primer on it too. & make sure you do at least 2 full guide coats

what I mean is 3coats of primer.
1 guide coat
another 2 or 3 coats of primer
another guide coat

then let loose with the real paint

good luck

Cheers mate, i didnt have a clue on how much i would need  .

From what i've read you can't get a better base than factory paint... so basically i dont need primer unless i have bare metal exposed in which case ill need to etch, sand then add primer. A must when sending over factory paint is make sure its all scuffed up so the new paint grabs.

So basically what i think im going to do is sand off the clear coat (which is currently whats causing all the problems (burning and flaking). lightly sand the paint underneath then start spraying over.

With any luck she'll have a fresh new coat in a couple months

Patchy's Labour of love

Postby StanTheMan » Mon Apr 06, 2009 12:32 pm

Patchy is Back.

Despite all the good intentions of Bigdog & Stan's hard work last year. She's getting another paint job.

This time. Classic Red in 2 pack.

Unfortunatlely because the previous paint has trapped water in it It all needs to come off first. So that means The acrylic as well as the primer underneath. Some panels will be partially back to meyal. Others totally.

Patchy's paint job Continues

the bonnet looks as though it may ave had hail damage at one stage or another. This didn't appear when I sanded it back by hand.
Pics to follow.

Keep it silver to match your hair
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Kind of looks like hail damage? do you think?

interestingly enough......this didn't really appear when I sanded it back in 2006 by hand or last year.

This time I'm using a orbital sander

You gotta stop holding it in the one spot too long. :P

So are you sticking with classic red?

I was thinking about SE red for my NA .. or black.

Do a comparison photo - put the bonnet against the fence and we can see how tall your boy has grown!
