I still think it comes down to what is the purpose- no probs for a racing situation and certainly for truck maintenance costs and for machinery such as large injection moulders. For the average driver who complies with the manufacturers recommendations what purpose is served? I would suggest that by far the majority of drivers complying with maintenance requirements get high KM before replacing engines and many scrap the car before the engine dies. From what I have seen of some of the oil forums they are a mixture of smoke and mirrors and unsubstantiated claims - ie those that have no reference test data etc.
