Has anyone used an NA8 coilpack on an NB8a before?
I believe the NB8A has 3 pin coil pack
Whereas NA8 pre 1995 have 4 pin, 95+ has 3 pin.
I know that the 4 pin coils, has an extra pin for the tach signal.
Can someone with an NA8 please list the colours on coil pack plugs from left to right? 3 or 4pin. (Total of 6 or 8 wires- the colours are....brown, black, black/white, brown/yellow ( 4pin has extra blue wire)

Correct
I'm not with my car atm, so I can't help with your wire/colour query.
Are you in need of a late NA8, three-pin, coil pack? If you want one brand-spanking new, genuine Mazda OEM, at a good price, send me a PM

Coil Pack NA NB interchangeable?
I'm in need of an NB8A coilpack, I've already got a coilpack, but they are both different, 4pin NA and original 3pin NB.
From what I can see, if the wiring is correct, and since 1.8L have ignitiors already in the coilpack, I don't see how it can't work, unless the ignitors in the NA is more weaker/stronger than the NB?
Thanks 1red5, could you please check the wiring.
On my NB it's:
(coil 4/1) Brown/yellow, Black, (nothing), Black/white................(coil 2/3) Brown, Black, (nothing), Black/white
edit: wrong wire colour.

Cheers, are you sure it's brown/white?
Because on NA wiring schematics it says there is only brown/yellow, maybe wrong lighting.. makes it look like white?
But from what I can decipher, It's the same as the NB plug.
As I already know that
Brown/yellow, and brown: Trigger
Black: Ground
12V: Blue for NA, Black/white for NB
Tach for NA 4pin: Black/white
So the wiring is the same position... Trigger, Ground, (nothing/Tach), 12V

Lighting wasn't great it was in garage with handheld 240v lamp - as you know the wires are not the most accessible & over 15 years old, so could be brown + yellow.

Depends what you mean, but the following might help:
Australian MX5 Sales:
1993: 453 NA6 & NA8;
1994: 404 NA8;
1995: 196 NA8;
1996: 241 NA8; &
1997: 118 or 206 NA8 (depending on source).
MX5-1.8-BP-9/93-12/94--JMONA30P300100001-200000
MX5-1.8-BP-12/94-?/9?--JMONA30P400100001-200000
MX5-1.8-BP-?/9?-11/97--JMONA30P500100001-200000
Difference in VIN used to delineate between evolutionary releases of the NA8.
So the answer to your question is no, but then again your question might have been rhetorical...
