NA6 to NA8

Postby JMather » Sun Mar 29, 2009 9:01 pm

Ok there may be a topic but I couldn't find one. So sorry if there is one.

Oh well it's been discovered that I have the dreaded short nose crank issue! To make matters worse I snaped the bolt head off the crank centre bolt. :(
So I need a new engine, now I don't want a 1.6 I don't see much of a point (If I'm putting in the effort to put a new engine in I would rather a new, better and faster one.)

So the question is what is interchangeable between a NA6 and the NA8 (head alternator a/c exhaust manifold etc. And will I need a new ecu? Or could mine do it?

Is ther much diffrence between in stock peformance between the two?

Also where is a good place to get a 1.8?

Thanks to any and all who help.

Ps: sorry bout the spelling I'm buggered at the moment.

It's quite an easy conversion...Flyin Miata do a kit so you don't have to change computer and stuff...

Best if you call MX5mania as they have done this many times.
NC Roadie, NC Racey, ND Racey….and a 30AE

Plus several others in the bone yard...

Hey mate

It can be done but everything runs off 1.6 electronics.

To update to 1.8 electronics 70% of the wiring has to be changed as the 1.8 uses different sensors and coils to the 1.6

PM me if you want any more info.

Personally I would go with another 1.6
