orange lense removal

hey guys, i hread a rumor that i can remove the orange blinker lense from my nb8a headlights (and puit in orange globes)

can anyone confirm any truth to this rumor??? if it is true, some photo's or a post/ nudge in
the right direction would be greatly appreciated

You can do it, few people on this forum have done it.
I think the consensus was you use a screwdriver to break the orange bits out, someone tried with a drill and it left small slithers of plastic inside housing.
Then just change to orange bulbs or the chrome bulbs that light up orange.

It can be done but doing it properly and not making a compromise is another thing. You are changing something merely for fashion not function. The headlamp whilst it can be taken apart is not meant to be and you can easily break something or end up with a leaking lamp after disturbing the glue track. The std t/sig bulb is a clear bulb with 180 deg pins. Amber bulbs have 150 deg pins and have a different base. They use different bases so that users do not fit the wrong bulb. I think the standard headlamp looks just fine.

Orange Lens Removed but I still had an orange globe

No more chrome bits now black

Hard to see but I now have chrome globes which lights up orange

I take Okibi's point but in my view the MX5 is a classic in its own right. I would never for example change the pop ups on the NA as this is fundamental to its design. The t/sigs on the car are very effective and fashion is fickle. If one sees a GT Falcon for example with modded parts it can be guaranteed it will be worth less than a vehicle which is standard even down to labels etc. Each to our own view and many prefer to customise to varying degrees.

Yup there will always be people who want to keep their car in concourse condition, the MX-5 clubs have loads of members who got sick of cleaning up oil spills from MGs, Jags and Triumphs and have seen the error of their ways and bought an MX-5.

Those with experience in a vintage car club can appreciate just how hard and expensive it is to keep a car in original condition.

Problem is when MX-5 clubs are run like a vintage car club, the concourse at the last Natmeet is a good example.

The MX-5 is the largest selling sports car of all time, it will take a long time for a standard configuration MX-5 to become collectable in its original condition.

I can see the merit in keeping my Triumph is it came from the factory 40 years ago but my NB is my toy, I want to be able to improve on it and change it to suit me. I enjoy tinkering and craft skills that I have learnt have helped save thousands in home renovations and maintenance.

If man never experimented at making things better we'd still be nudist hunter gathers trying to catch our dinner with our hands.

If every parent stopped the children from tinkering,trying to understand how things work, trying different solutions then many of the great minds of our world may never have succeeded in their chosen profession.

Don't always accept the bland, life would be very boring if we all wore practical clothes, ate practical meals and drove practical cars.

Mr morlock your opinions are valid, but considering what ive done to my nb so far and what i have planned, there is no way it would have a hope at concorse if i put evrything back to stock.

not to mention that the poor thing has been crashed a few times.

AZNTieN did you pull your lights apart to paint your lights to paint the insides???

yes mate i did

you have to cook the headlight for dinner tho

otherwise you'll just break things trying to pry it open with a screw driver

put it in the oven and then take it out while its hot to pry it open

Your not ment to pry it open, you remove the headlight then use the srewdriver inserted through the bulb opening to shatter the orange pieces.
