When did your coilpack fail?
Alright it seems the well known problem of the NB8A is the coilpack.
Just to get a rough idea, oh how widespread the coil pack failures are, please chime in.
And from what I have read, coilpack failure is reduced if you change the leads and plugs every 40K or so...
Car: NA6/8, NB8A/B???
Kms at which is failed:
Did you replace the plugs and leads often, before failure?:
Obviously, all cars are different, giving their circumstances and history. But it's just something of interest.

Why not setup a pole like they have on the miata.net forum?
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

My coilpack has not failed

Leads = never replaced - I clean and test them at least every 6 months.
Only part ever failed was the Fuel Pump

How do you test your leads?

In the service manual it gives figures relating to the Resistance range for the plug leads, for e.g. 10-12 K-ohms - just grab a good quality multimeter and check that each lead is within the designated range.

my nb8a original coil packs lasted over 150,000
bought a new set because of a miss that developed into a huge power cut off above 4000rpm mostly underload. also replaced leads and plugs.. turned out to be a LOOSE cam angle sensor.. same cam angle sensor plug held on firmly with a cable tie is still going strong 160,000ks.. is now being used as a spare (as ive recently put in a lower Ks motor to do a rebuild on the old) and is currently fitted to mxheven's 5 as his cam angle sensor died. (also has my crank angle sensor fitted)

When did your coilpack fail?
Hmmm so from what I can see from the responses, no one has experience coilpack failure?
Except for Okibi, how many kms had your car done?
And it seems that mine has failed, at 84,000km.
NB8A, leads I don't believe had been changed yet, and I would really recommend people who haven't done so, do it, doesn't hurt and will only cost you about $80 for leads + plugs.

Just a bit of helpfull advice, Hyundai excel x3 (1996 single and twincam) coil packs are identical in dimensions and performance specs as the NA6.
During the Tagra run Mick commented his were aftermarket Hyundai ones (much cheaper than the Mazda) they are bosch branded too.
Working on an excel today, tool the coilpacks off and compared them to my spare set. Identical.
