opinions: painted stockies vs 17"s
Hey all.. just after some oppinions from other ppl as to what looks better..
Thanks to some helpful posts by Cheyne x5 and feel_ixx, imanaged to semi-successfully paint my stock rims. Originally i did it for my girlfriend so that she can put it on her echo instead of hub caps.. but i decided to putem on today and almost died when i saw this
it actually looks good !! The reason im annoyed is cos i just spent $950 on these babies
To complete the look, i was thinkin to go with the mx5mart front lip
http://www.mx5mart.co.nz/db.cgi?db=mart ... records2=1
and 30mm spacers
oh and the old daisies need new tyres cos theyre bald as anything.
so thers a few dollars to put into it if i were to do the new setup.
Does anyone think this would look better? And if so, would it be worth my time/money for the new look?
any advice appreciated thanks
Anthony

IMO it looks way better than the 17"s
17 are too big.
And I'm also sure the handling is more light?
Sell the 17s and get some sticky tyres for the 14's
Or instead, just have the 17's lying around when you want them?

17's ftw
I am biased. I have 17's on my NA8 and I think it fills the profile of the car nicely.
I would also suggest lowering the car if it hasn't been done yet.
Mind you, you should get about 7 posts from the cardy brigade about why 17's are shite etc etc etc.

Your 17s are identical to the wheels I have on my NB (Clicky).
If you keep the 17s, IMO you'll need to lower the NA so that it won't look like a 4WD.

would you have clearance issues on the front wheels if its lowered? (sorry for the hijack)
i meant to ask you last thursday when i saw your car at the vic meetup fastfreddy...
but yeah if you look at the first post, there isn't much space there for a 30mm drop or so... or is it dependent on the offset of the wheel?

painted stockies get my vote. they look alot better than the 17s. but its the paint/color that makes them look better. the size has nothing to do with it.

I remember talking to you ages ago about this mate. Both mine and Freddy's cars were really low with 17's and we had no clearance issues at all. Although the last time I dumped it on it's ass I started to get problems but nothing a guard roll wouldn't sort out. Most important of what you need is the right offset and the right width of tyres. Get them right and you will never have an issue. You might have more of an issue with hitting the bump stops if you run too low.

i always think its kinda funny when people ask for advice on what looks best. it all comes down to personal taste, and seeing how it's your car, then your opinion is the only one that really matters. but since you asked, i'll just slip my cardy on and say i prefer the look of the 14's. altho 17's can look really good once the car is lowered a bit, that pic of ffg's car proves it.
i'd be more concerned about the effect on the handling, than any cosmetic issues, but that is a whole other COW and i can see meanmx and ffg getting hot under the collar already, and i haven't even hit the "submit" button yet...

Yeah of coarse, but ive been workin on those rims for the past couple days and for some reason when i put them on the car and take a step back, i dont feel i am able to make a proper judgement. like when you cook dinner and everyone else compliments ur food and ur tryin to figure out whats missing? lol if that makes sense?? Anyway to put it in other words, my taste buds r a little too sensative right now and sometimes other opinions help put it all in perspective.
The ones with 17"s posted above look good, i got my car lowered by 2" not long ago with the 17"s and it was definately for the best. thats not a good picture of mine above, but it does look pretty good. i found the 17s had very little effect on the cars handling, although the low pros made it a bit harder on the bumps.
I took it for a short drive this afternoon for the first time on 14"s since mid-late last year, and admittedly, the 14s were nice to go back to for comfort. I think with the front lip and 30mm spacers it would give it that bit of a cosmetic edge over the previous look too, but i cant be sure. I guess im just reluctant to let go of the 17s, having only bought them not long ago. After a few more geezers at other cars thru the forum and a couple days of wearing in the new look, i might be able to come to a proper decision.
Thanks heps for all the helpful posts guys, keep them coming

I have 17" not as bad as some people make it out to be.
Turning circle is the same, track times still okay, however ride is more bumpy.

i think the daisys look better, colour flows well.
the 17's look out of place, car looks like a 4X4 and i'm not a fan of the style/colour of wheel.
i'm also curious on what "really low" is with 17's? is it still above 100mm ground clearance?
in the end its personal prefference, do what you are happiest doing.
