Cleaning the Drain Holes - Reminder

Postby Guran » Fri Mar 20, 2009 8:51 pm

Thanks guys. I'll have another look on Sunday. I'll be on the road in my 135 all day tomorrow, so looking for drain holes will have to wait! :)

Cleaning the Drain Holes - Reminder

ok, cleaned the drains successfully yesterday!

turns out the driver's side was blocked, adn the passenger side was not draining fast enough.

I found that the thin black PVC sprinkler pipe works very well!

I twisted and contorted myself to see the drains (roof on), and slowly fed the sprinker pipe down the hole, I just wiggled and rotated it until it came out the bottom (after a wad of rotted leaves and dirt)

then the water all flooded out.

so yeah, drain cleaning successful, thanks guys!

(on my NB8A I needed to lift the corner of the carpet up to access the drains.)

Mr_Q wrote:Be careful with the drain holes. The actual drain hose is a separate piece and can come apart if you push it too hard or blow too much compressed air into it when it's blocked. It's easy enough to put back together ... once you remove most of the trim.

Be a little cautious about how much force is applied when clean out the crud as per Mr_Q warning.
If they are really blocked, you could try holding the bottom of the hose as someone else pushes down or try digging (carefully) from the bottom.

Co-ax cable, like TV antenna cable, works well.

Why of cuz! nice, round and thick so it won't coil on itself when inside the hole.

this paint is good stuff. I'd say the rest of the car will rust around those bits.

sprinkler pipe, it's about 10mm wide, and made of black plastic. It's used in the garden for the little mist sprinklers and dripper heads. You can buy it at bunnings etc, it comes in a roll of something like 20m (I used leftovers I had lying around)

I'll try to get a pic of it.

Hey STM, did you use paint remover first then use something like a Rust Encapsulator?

Bump this thread for great information.
I just flushed mine tonight after a great days rain in Melbourne.
Both drains were blocked.
I found it easier to do with the top up.
