Cosworth supercharger for the NC

Any news on the Cosworth unit in Australia? Does anybody know a friend of a friend who has put one of these units in?

I am looking at this, or some other supercharger, as a possible project in late 2009. Like most I do not want to be the first kid on the block with one if there are teething problem.

I like the MX-5 so much that I am likely to keep the car well beyond two and half years, a bit of a record for me, and so I'm not as concerned about the resale or any hope of getting my money back with the supercharger. BUT would I need to upgrade the diff etc to account the extra power interms of traction?

Any good references out there?

Havent heard anyone in AUS that is running one, at $9k AUD that might be a reason why, as well as the hassle/cost in getting engineering if your in a non pineapple state.

I heard that MX5 Mania were going to be doing the test fitting/tuning for Aus spec cars and also the agents in Aus. Simone mentioned a projected price of well over $10K supplied and fitted last time I talked to her about it.

$10k!!! Wow that's a lot of money.

That's basically the price for a stock NA with some suspension mods and racing wheels and tyres as a dedicated car for track days.

ummm, WELL over $10k, though pricing wasn't finalised when I was talking to Simone about it. IL Motorsport in Germany have them listed at 4299 euro ($AUD8880) + shipping, fitting and tuning. They are quoting 12 to 14hrs fitting time with tuning on top of that. 12 hours at $100+ per hour and your up to your $10k and it's still not tuned and you haven't paid your shipping and duties if applicable. Maybe Simone was being a bit pessimistic in her guestimate.

...Today I got an email stating that they are now an official Costworth agents. This obviously means they can now sell the Costworth NC Supercharger.



Cost is £3,448.85 plus fitting.

I bet all NC owners wanting for this wished our dollar was a lot higher huh

Wow... based on current exchange rates, that is AUD$7,370 compared to AUD$8,210 from Goodwin Racing in the U.S.! That is a fair bit cheaper!
I wonder if shipping kills it?

At least one of our associates here in Sydney has made some substantial enquiries about bringing this in to Australia.

There are a couple of significant issues with this however, the main one being that Cosworth will not guarantee any exclusivity to dealers selling the product, since any existing Cosworth client can order anything from their catalogue.

Furthermore, there were some serious questions regarding the warranty (or lack thereof).

'Tis a pity, on the whole it looks like a great product. Will be interesting to see how it goes long term.

In my experience shipping things from the U.S. is much more expensive than shipping from anywhere else (even Canada)

so it might even be a double-discount getting it from the UK

Its actualy 2999 plus vat now from the UK. They will ship to Australia and you wont have to pay vat.
At current exchange rates it would land for approx $6700 AUD.
Adding gst and duties sees it bump up too $7700.

Its not worth doing the install if you haven't got headers and a 2.25 exhaust. Its also highly recommended you buy the sniper tuning software at the same time.

IMHO wait for another 6 months and our dollar will continue to gain against the UK pound. A small gain in exchange rates will equal quite a bit once landed.

Does the sniper tune work on euro spec and "asian" spec cars??

There was some talk about the sniper tune only being available for U.S spec cars?

Anyone confirm?
