NB8A Bonnet Height... gap between bumper and bonnet

Postby Amanda » Sun Mar 15, 2009 6:32 pm

Hi Guys...

I've started looking around at NBs, mainly NB8As.

I looked at one in Maidstone today, at a dealer.. and thru the fence (yes not ideal but hey I was 'window shopping') and this little car had a very noticeable gap between the bumper and the bonnet. It seemed to fit flush up near the guards and then across the front of the bumper, over the lights there was a good 8mm gap. The car is near the fence, so I was able to see that it was securely closed.

So is this merely a thing that needs adjusting or a sign of something much more sinister?

I tried searching this, but the words height and bonnet generate ALOT of hits!

I have an NB8A which has a larger gap at the front than the sides, probably a good 5mm or more without measuring, it has no accident damage so I would safely assume that it is quite normal.

NB8A Bonnet Height... gap between bumper and bonnet

Ok thanks MX5CHIC... I've never noticed it on any NB8A before, but that's probably because I've not looked close enough. Perhaps the red duco shows it up a bit more! This particular car had decent enough paint, albeit a few stone chips on the bonnet and also 1 nice sized dent in the passenger side rear quarter. But at 13500 at a dealer, it's bound to have some sort of an issue... all the others are well over 15k.

The car also has a mx5factory sticker on the drivers side window, so I can ask Dick about it. He should remember me from my old MX5s.

EDIT: But then I look at fundies car for eg, and the one I saw today had a big gap compared to this car. Fundies car's bonnet gap is the same all around by the looks of this photo

I've looked at NBs and never noticed any gap differences on the bonnet, they were all uniform.

could be as harmless as the bonnet just being missaligned.

it could also be something a little more sinister.......as a bent chasis wher it was resprayed & were unable to allign the bonett corectly

Thanks guys.

Well the car does have an MX5Factory sticker on it.. given Dick is a very good panel repairer, highly likely thats why it went there! I'll dig around further.
