You need to either take to a mechanic for further investigation or have a look yourself depending how good you are mechanically.

It is typically caused by the crank pully bolt working loose..

The infamous short nose crank problem where the keyway is worn?
Take to your local MX5 specialist (update your location and we can suggest the nearest one).
Good luck. 8)

Also is the Crank Pulley in my 1.6L the same as the 1.8L BP Engines?

Me neither...

To the OP:
1) Update your location in your user control panel -> profile -> location: __________
2) Do a search for short nose crank using the search function. There have been many threads on the issue.
3) The B6 crank pulley is different from the BP crank pulley from memory (happy to be corrected on this if someone can confirm otherwise).
