I intend to use my car on the road mainly, but I do flop about while cornering.

It will definitely hold you in place!

And the only seat readily available nowadays is the seat you've seen, the Type F
You can buy them here,

I would prefer a recliner like the mazda speed or later mx5's.

Thankyou for the link and dirrection to the mazdaspeed seats.

Can anybody answer the other questions about the later model seats?

I am considering purchasing NC Leather Seats for my NB8A, the current seats are just terrible on a long drive especially considering I am 5''11 tall, I had a sit in the NC Seats and they are a vast improvement in comfort.
Has anyone fitted NC seats to a NA or NB ?
I might be the first to do it from my searches through various forums but having looked at the NC Seats I think it will be reasonably simple (fingers crossed) :?

Might be doable, depending on the size of the NC seat base [ if it rubs/ hits the transmission tunnel ]

And you will need custom rails.

I have purchased Red Leather NC Seats for fitting in my NB8A, I removed one of my existing seats in order to take measurements and have decided to go ahead on the project. Fitting requires wider mounting points for the base of the seat so I have been to a steel supply and fabrication company who are currently making up 4 x 32mm x 5mm brackets which will fit across the standard NB Seat Rails.
On my test fit while taking measurements I have been suprised at how much lower I sit in the car even though the brackets will raise the seat by 5mm, this is due to the thickness of the base padding in the NB seat compared to far less thickness of the NC padding.
I'll be taking photos during the project and write up a "how to" when completed. Watch this space......

The new MX5 (nd) at the motor show has "optional" recaro's fitted. They feel briliant and should not have the problems of the mazda speed seat (loss of seat travel due to back thickness, difficulty closing roof due to wings). :D
The nd information sign stated that the standard seats were height adjustable so the mounts may be different again.

Actually, the reason there's a loss of travel is not due to the thickness of the back, but because of the shoulder wings hitting the seat belt tower. You don't lose that much travel though.

As for difficulty in closing the roof, there's no physical problem with it (ie the roof still closes, no problems). It's just more difficult to try and close the roof whilst still in the seat. It's easily overcome by just getting a little higher to reach over the wing.

Small point of clarification, I haven't modified my seat, other than sitting my fat arse in it for 214000km... :D
