Fuzzlet wrote:Wow you arent wasting any time on this at all. One thing I might reccommend, is get the crank professionally checked for cracks etc. U dont wanna put the engine together only to find the crank is stuffed and you've wasted a good few hours work. Interesting hearing about the problems with the coolant though...

Yeah, Guess I have put in about 20 hours so far, with others assisting, im kinda getting into it :>

Good Point, im guessing an engine machining place should be able to do the crack testing?

It seems besides the stuffed bearing it looks like a new engine in there (what a suprise! :P )

One thing i did notice though is that one of the cam bearings/caps has a like.. crater in it, im not really sure what to do about that, as they arent replacable shells :|

Hahahaha. This engine came about because the previous engine lasted 114kms. Not 114 thousand kms, a measly 114km before it blew itself apart. It was enough of an ass around trying to get the workshop to build another engine for me after 114ks, let alone 25k kms or so

I'm halfway through the rebuild of my NA6 engine.

I have 11:1 pistons, lightweight rods, 1mm OS valves on a ported head and HKS cams. Bearings are from ACL Race Series.

I had the crank finished and polished by an engine builder in Queanbeyan who also did the head work.

Look hard at the parts from http://www.belfabracing.com/.
If you decide to go ahead with parts from him, let me know, he owes me some money through an overcharge on postage.

I bought the water pump, pistons, valves and valve springs from them.

The rods are from another place as Belfab makes the H beam types which are too strong for my need, and the extra weight is actually counter productive.

The pistons appear good, the man who did the head told me that he thought the valves/valve springs to be the equal of any of the common aftermarket products. Gents in the US using the products (particularly the rods) seem happy with them. I did a fair bit of research before I tipped the $$$ in.

I'll let you know how it all goes together. It would be together now but for the thrust bearings I bought from a person on this forum......lets just say that KF-KE bearings do not suit the KE-KF laser, but the KF-KE Mazda engine. There was a big cloud of swear words in the garage on saturday afternoon when I worked that little one out. B6/BP bearings arrive today. :D

If anyone is looking for B6 engine bits, I have most of two spare engines that I don't need (no long nose cranks though).

Thanks, I sure hope we do :D

Its strange, I don't think we are all that good at it, its the first engine we have had apart (done a few engine swaps before, on lancers) but it just all seems to be easier than i expect!.

I imagine putting it back together is the hard bit, any tips for not building a grenade?

Cheers, I reckon I will get pistons and gaskets from them, I dont see a water pump there though?

Who is the engine builder you went to, what was the price like and did he do a good job?

OI!!!!! Where's your bunding? Degreaser to stormwater is BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD!!!!! Tsk Tsk Tsk - better hope the local neighbours don't send these pics to the EPA in your area.

Otherwise I'd give you an A for effort, not an E for Environment.
