Immob and Alarm

I am looking at getting insurance for my mx5 however i require a good immob and alarm.

Can anyone recommend anything?

i've been eyeballing these, since they seem to to be the cheapest standards approved alarms you can get, and they have plenty of upgrade options:

I put a VDO in mine. Works well, It has the extra wires for Central locking and remote boot release.

I've got a Ming Stealstopper. Got alarm, motion detector, windows up, door lockers, boot release, bonnet/door/boot detectors, ECU/fuel/starter immobiliser, silent mode, etc. In fact it's got so many things that no-one can wire it up properly. What it's missing is instructions. Pls see my other post. Help!

Yes all those things are pretty standard, The same as my VDO.
Have a look on the Internet, The VDO wiring diagram was there.
As long as the wires are all still numbered it shouldn't be too hard

Window up feature is great, until you're working on a mates 300zx fitting interwarmers, he turns the keys to the off position and goes to inspect the front of the car. Alarm kicks in after the allocated time, rolls up the windows and locks the keys in the car.

I installed a brand new factory alarm i scored off of ebay last year for $90. Works with the original central locking remote. does doors, boot. bonnet, also has bump sensor, proximity alert and also micro-wave cabin intrusion zone for when the top's down. Has clear installation instructions, mostly it's just unplug the car loom and then plug the alarm loom and mount the components, only takes about 2 hours to install. $360.00 from the factory extras list i think.

Mongoose and Brant seem to be the aftermarket Aus Standards alarms that people choose. Must have Battery Backup, 3 point immobiliser and black wiring to be legible and also installed by a qualified person. Viper is also popular but I think it doesn't have black wiring, not sure. Anyway just bought a Mongoose M80G off ebay and will get it fitted soon to comply with insurance requirements. Can let you know what I think in a week if you like

I have an SE and am looking to install a Mongoose MAP80 Upgrade alarm (see http://completecarsound.com.au/componen ... Itemid,63/) which states:

The MAP80G is controlled from your cars existing factory remote control. The MAP80G 'upgrades' the vehicles original central locking to a full security system.
This model is very comprehensive and is equipped with TWO automatic engine immobilisers, full alarm functions, 2 stage impact sensor, microphone glass break sensor, black wiring, battery back-up siren with soft arm and disarm chirp, safety ignition door locking, automatic re-arm and automatic re-lock, turbo timer interface software to name but a few.
If your vehicle already has remote controlled central locking, then consider the MAP80G - it was specifically designed for your vehicle.

Will this unit entitle me to an insurance disccount?

ie. Standard Mazda MX5 SE immobolisation + 2 * MAP80 immobiliers = 3 point immobilisation required for insurance discount?

Anything that's insurance approved should see you through. Go talk to any car audio shop and they should point you in the right direction.
