Yes. No problem. Removed the centre nut, banged around the rim of the wheel and then applied alternating force to the rim as I pulled it towards me without hitting myself when the spline/taper lock released.

Danny

Factory NA8 or NB Steering wheels into NA6?

Postby li21 » Fri Feb 27, 2009 3:07 pm

Hi all,

Reopening this discussion again..

Just wanted to know if this steering wheel pictured will fit ?
So its got a fatter body and it wont fit to the standard NA6 6 hole boss kit.

Its a momo and looks so much like orx626 wheel.. Is there a way to get it to work? im guessing not.

Looks like a WRX wheel. Looks like it has an integrated boss for the Suby (like ORXs - integrated boss for the 5). I think that's a no go.

Ok.. what about a Nardi Torino wheel?

Is that an integrated boss ? (looks to be a 5 hole design)
If I get a universal boss would that fit on or will it stick out too much?

Looks like another integrated hub (if the hub is for a 5, fine). You need a wheel which has basically nothing attached (then fit the correct hub).

How are the NA8 fitted? eg, Sabretooth's NA8. is the boss attached to it or can it be seperated so I can easily get another nardi wheel (deep corn =D) to attach on.

As Danny said the particular wheel you've linked is JDM.

I thought this Nardi steering wheel was only unique to the Clubman? Which came with matching Nardi gear shift knob? And the standard NAs came with a Momo wheel?

Is this correct?

Does anyone know what this wheel is?

Seems to fit an NA with boss and the right size. Judging by the picture its around 365mm?

Ive been looking for a replacement for my NA6 steering wheel but want a chunky look, rather than the flat style momo.

European brand wheel - looks like it has a separate hub. Rial brand or something (Look in a UK tuning magazine and you will see stuff like that).

Fitting other Steering wheels into NA6?

Just as an aside, this was Bob Halls explanation of why Mazda kept switching between Nardi and Momo wheels on the '5:

Always wondered why MX-5's (particularly NA series) seem to flip flop between Momo steering wheels and Nardi steering wheels + gear knob. Were there different agreements with these suppliers? Reason I'm asking is that I am putting a Nardi black leather gear knob with my standard fit Momo and this question popped into my head.

Andrew Mackew, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Political as much as anything. Momo's reputation in Japan isn't anywhere as good as Nardi's, while the reverse is the case in North America. Since Nardi and Momo are owned by the same group, Mazda splits orders between the two suppliers as a fop to the US and Japanese markets. This alternates the bellyaching headquarters gets from the US and Japanese sales departments without appearing to side with one over the other.

Interesting GS :)

Whats everyone's preference ? The Momo or the Nardi?

Can someone with the Nardi confirm its also 365mm in diameter?

Cheers.
