NA6 Weekend Toy

Postby MattR » Wed Feb 25, 2009 11:39 pm

Hi, another Newby here.

I purchased a 9-89 NA6 the week before christmas as a present to myself.

Did everything wrong, bought it through a car wholesaler over the phone without seeing it and flew down from brisbane to Sydney to pick it up from the dealer it was traded at and drove home the next day without even checking air pressures in the tyres. Never missed a beat and was frustrating having to drive with the top up for most of the day so I didn't burn to a crisp.

You wouldn't believe it is 20 years old and is great fun to punt around, certainly a lot cheaper than my XR8 to run  Picked it up with just under 200k on the clock so will be shortly getting a service done including timing belts and water pump, plus new clutch as it starting to slip with race type starts, but is fine for most driving, and also get the a/c checked and serviced.

Plans are to use it as a weekend toy and just enjoy it as it is.

Hopefully will meet a few of you from Brisvegas on the run on friday night.

Thanks for the welcome.

I'll try to get some pictures up in the next few days after I've had a chance to wash and polish it. I've been slack and haven't had a chance to give it a clean since I got it home.

Thanks Stuart, I'll see what the calendar is looking like in the next coupleof days and if I can will be along for the run.
Matt

Welcome to the 5 family.

I too just got an NA for track days, just after Christmas (New Years eve to be exact). I flew to Brisbane from Sydney to get it.

Welcome MattR. I'm a newby too. I've had my 92 NA6 for almost a month and have already done my first track day. You've really got to get it onto the track to truly experience the full capacity of this lovely little car.

I don't really want this toy to end up on the track, I already have a 240Z for track work.

The 5 was bought as a fun weeknd car that I don't need to do anything with but put petrol in it and some oil every so often.

That's the plan anyway, as I have the 240Z for track work and I am also restoring a 71 Valiant Charger that is taking up all my spare dollars at the moment.

I will probably look at buying another 5 in a couple of years specifically as a track car to run in 2F as the Z will make a better hillclimb car and be more competitive than it is at the moment racing as a 2b production sports car.

Also found a pic on my work pc, will hopefuly get some more up over the weekend after I give it a clean.

Wow! What a coincidence...

...I was looking for a clean and original 240z on the latter half of last year. But I couldn't find one that met my requirements, so I went and got a future classic instead - an NA8 Clubman.

I'm still on the lookout for an original 240z, but will take my time and be picky. I know they're out there, it's just a matter of finding them. Plus I'll need to save some money now that I spent what I had on the Clubman. :D

My 240 certainly isn't original, and at the moment not real clean as it's in pieces getting a freshen up both mechanically and for the body. It's way too far gone to get registered, or turn into a historic Sc racer so I will hill climb it for the time being.

The prices of the good 240's are also scary when you are looking at up near $20k for a good one. The 5 was much better value for me at $5500 :D , though it did put a dent in the Charger budget fo rthe next few months.
