Beeping when key is in ignition when either door is oper

Postby KBZZ » Tue Feb 24, 2009 2:49 pm

I have a 1999 NB mx5, and i was wondering whether anyone knows how to disable the really annoying beeping that occurs when the keys are in the ignition and one of the cars doors are open. It frustrates me no end!

Yeap, unplug the plug under the dash that goes to the ignition switch. It has 2 fine wires in the plug and the plug is right near rthe steering column. You might need to remove the plastic cover under the steering column to see it.

Garry,

Is this the same for the NA "lights on" buzzer? It's quite annoying and I'd like to disengage it. :x

N/A's dont have a lights on buzzer, only a seat belt buzzer. Maybe yours has an after market jobbie Hammer? I installed one into my NA.

Hmmmmmm :? I'll take a look. My NA does not have a seat belt buzzer but do have the mentioned "Lights on" buzzer.

The sound comes from around the parcel shelf area (just behind the driver). I might have to look around on where exactly it is.

My eunos NA6 has a seat belt buzzer and the NB8A has the headlight/key warning on it too.

I actually love them, having owned older and sh*tter cars I appreciate the extra technology.

They're only an issue if you want to leave your headlights on for some bizarre reason or want to listen to the radio while working on your car etc. I have a separate radio in the garage.

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

My 96 NA had a seatbelt buzzer which was incredibly annoying. When the car is started the seatbelt light would illuminate and a buzzer would sound for a few seconds. If the seatbelt was plugged in then the buzzer didn't go off. But I wasn't going to put the seatbelt on to reverse out of the garage then take it off when I got out to lock the garage door.

So I unplugged the wire that went to the seatbelt stalk. Problem solved 8)
