Window tinting

My NB has the 2 side windows tinted, the 2 1/4 panel windows, the soft top and the hardtop windows are also tinted.

I'll be booking my NA for tint in the next week or so, when it gets a glass window soft top that will be tinted too.

I also had a strip of tint along the top of the windscreen, I haven't had that redone since I replaced with windscreen but i'll get it done again.

I guess its an opinion thing.

Melbourne gets REALLY hot temperatures (i think it happens now and then)

Guys,
I have the windows, quarter glass, top of windscreen & hardtop rear windscreen all tinted. When it gets really hot (as it is lately), my car is several degrees cooler by virtue of the fact that I can actually sit in my seat straightaway without burning my butt....hehe

So although there was a time that I was the club's "soft-top police" (going around telling people off for having their soft tops up), I now fully appreciate driving with the hardtop on and utilising tint for its purpose. On 40 degree days, I have the aircon on full as this actually allows me to enjoy the drive home. I don't get sun burnt and most importantly, I don't appear to have taken a shower in the car when I get out... :lol:

I take it the soft top has a glass window? is it even possible to tint a plastic one? replace the clear with already tinted plastic?

Yup glass rear window, I haven't seen tinted plastic used before. I'd rather save the money and put it into a "glass rear window soft top fund".

i think tints on an mx5 is advantageous.

what if it is a 38 degree day? there is no way you would just sit in the car and fry, despite having a hat and long sleeve clothes on.

i tend to feel sleepy on extra hot days. on those days, i have the top up. the tints make a significant difference.

So does it really make a difference? Being only two windows. I would have thought that majority of sun comes through the front windshield, that of which cant be tinted for legal reasons.

5.1 windows with the hardtop or glass soft top and strip across the top of the windscreen, yes it does.

What do the guys with black cars go for? The place reccomends a mirror style tint.

i dunno about mirrored. i know you can get different levels of reflective. i'd go with slightly reflective ones so it'll be hard for thieves to look into your car.

This is for colour reasons as black wouldnt go good with black? So they do a reflective tint for black vehicles. I dont know how black would looks on a black car as i have never seen it, but i wasnt too keen on reflective.

I think if you cheked with the RTA, Vic Roads etc you would find reflective tint or alike would be illegal. The police need to see into the car when/ if they pull you over. Plus there would be reason to book you on the tint alone.
