Claybar! Is it worth doing?
Not sure wun but we could weigh the clay bar before and after
I might wait to do mine, ben is probably coming over early next week some time to do his, feel free to join in, i have heaps of cut & polish left from the starlet aswell, Will probs need to buy another quick clay kit though.

Like others are saying I wouldn't use the cut and polish you have, your paint doesn't need to be cut. I would wash the car twice, then clay it twice to make sure you get everything, and then use a fine cutter like Meguiars scratch x, then polish with Meguiars step 2 polish, and then the wax..

Cut and polish is an ancient process. If a car has not been looked after , left to the elements etc then it may be entirely appropriate to use that process. All polish has some degree of abrasion but you would not use a heavy cutter on a car with excellent paint work. Modern paints are really triumphs of technology and it would not be unreasonable to expect paint to last the life of the car if is treated properly. Personally and perhaps unscientifically I do not polish regularly though regular washing seems to work very well.

Cheyne, I'm thinking I may give mine a miss... I gave it a wash today, as the pics below show its still pretty shiney, especially considering its white which is harder to get depth out of. It probebly doesn't need doing for a few months as it has a fair bit of polish and wax in it already.
I'm still happy to come by and give you a hand with your car though... If your car looks too much better than mine then we'll do mine too .
Not too bad for polish and wax on a 19 year old white car

So what is the difference between polish and wax? I was told years ago wax is just "American" for polish.

polishing removes a layer of paint. you could think of polish as very very fine sandpaper. while waxing is a protective layer on top of the polished paint.
on bad paint even wax may remove some oxidised paint.

Claybar! Is it worth doing?
Well, today was the day Went down to the local car wash, gave the car a good wash etc.
Drove home, Ben and i started with the claybar and quick detailer, we spent roughly an hour doing this, One side of the car each.
After that, we proceeded with using meguiars carnauba wax, as mentioned my car had already been buffed, polished and more just a few weeks ago, was still smooth, but noticably smoother after claybar. The photo's do not come anywhere near close to how good this actually looks (photo's were taken with iPhone *fail*)
We also did Ben's car too which came up a treat
Mmmm, reflections...
I thought this was very well worth it, i highly recommend it for anyone who has not done this before.
Will try to get my hands on a better camera in the next few days...

Wow, came out great. iPhone takes crap photos for sure but I can see how well your car turn out on the third photo. Nice gloss, try using paint sealant before the wax next time. It helps to keep your paint looking slick even longer.

Tyre shine helps , wheels just have a lot of brake dust on them

Good results Cheyne, I'll go out and take a few pics of mine soon with a propper camera... Its really impressive how much smoother the car feels after claybarring, even considering both our cars already had a bit of polish on them.

Not bad for white, the depth in mine barely compares with Cheyne's car though despite being just as smooth. I'll take some more later.
