How to bring extra set of rims for Track day

Postby mxrx » Sat Feb 14, 2009 10:08 pm

Hi All

I trailered a road registered MX-5 down to the last Wakefield Track day. Mainly because I have a trailer and tow vehicle and the driver, Lyndsay Burke and I we able to travel down together, The reason we trailered the car was that it has done over 230,000kms and so driving it down was going to put more wear on the engine and Lyndsay wanted every edge he could. He also had another set of tyres for it as well as tools, jack etc to carry.

So if you can, it is always a good idead to trailer your car to a track day.

Hi guys, I'm wondering how many k's would a set of semi slick last? People often mention them in term of track days, how many k's on average?

just a quick follow up to this , while i'm thinking of it. i've just got a new set of 205 r888's. my previous rubber was 195. the 205's don't want to squeeze into the boot - too fat. so the "3 in the cabin, 1 in the boot" trick seems to only work with smaller tyres.... or maybe i'm just not using enough force to squeeze it in there.

I would say you aren't using enough force. I've fitted a 205/45/16 in my boot & I also haven't removed the carpet. Although what is the sidewall ratio of your tyre?

Going by the miata.net tyre size calcuator the diametre is about 9mm smaller than the 16' wheel I've fitted in the boot so that isn't the problem. It's only 4mm bigger than the stock tyre too.

I'm surprised it doesn't fit, perhaps anouther try, I found I really had to squeeze it in and apply a fair bit of force to get it to sit low enough to shut the boot.

Try wriggling, it needs to go in at the right angle. I know I got a 205/50x15 in the boot of my NB. It took a bit of manoevering, and was a pretty snug fit when in, but it certainly can be done.

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)

Also pays to remember that not all 205's are the same width.
It is surprising the variance in width between tyres that are supposed to be the same.

Wriggle it, and make sure that it's at the right angle.

But a little bit of KY jelly will get you a LONG way!

Or have I lost the thread..................?
