Ignition Switch Replacement

Postby adamjp » Thu Feb 12, 2009 8:21 pm

Does anybody have any experience with replacing the ignition switch on the steering column?

I'm having issues with the car starting and then suddenly stopping. The problem is the action of the switch which has developed a position between 'on' and 'accessories'.

Ignition Switch Replacement

I hope you have got this sorted by now, but if not:

I have just had a similar problem. It's very simple to replace the ignition switch. Once you take the plastic cowling off from around the steering column and switch area, it's a simple matter to remove the switch. It has a cable with a large plug going into it. You just remove this, then there is a single screw holding it to the rest of teh assembly. You just remove this screw and you can remove the switch.

A replacement may well solve your problem - it did with me. You don't need the whole key assembly, just the switch part.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Paul.

I know this is really late, but it may help somebody -Australian suppliers want over $200 for a replacement Ign switch. Order it from MX5parts UK. They'll deliver the genuine article to your door within 7 days at less than half price!
