Claybar! Is it worth doing?

Fatty wrote:i usually spend 5 or 6 hours every fortnight doing a wash, then clay bar, the waxing, the polishing, all that stuff. i'd say it's well worth it. anyone who saw my car in the sunlight at winton recently will attest to that the end result is well worth it, the way the car shines and glistens in the sunlight is amazing, you can see your reflection in the smooth , mirror like paint on my car.

Claybar! Is it worth doing?

Not quite sure why Locutus quoted me earlier though his comments seem reasonable to me. However claybars must have some abrasion qualities- a check of the web will reveal. All polishes and papers have degrees of abrasion from harsh to almost imperceptible. The micro grades are often only available on request from paint specialists. You can polish minor blemishes out of acrylic lenses with light polish and lambswool buffs if you have the right touch. I would be interested from those guys in the trade to know what the panel shops are generally using today. I do not believe in wonder products and reckon they are variations on themes and owe a lot to marketing. But using claybars seems ok to me and if one is happy at the result then stay with it.

Claybar! Is it worth doing?

Uncle Arthur wrote:...As for the claybar - if you buy the Meguiars kit, break the clay in half. I still have one half unused, and the used half is still going after nearly 2 years.

Ditto 8)

All I do is buy new bottles of the Meguiar's Quik Detailer as the lubricant. The bar seems to last foreverer. As per Uncle Arthur, the other half of my claybar has not yet been used and I've had mine for over two years. 8)

As previously mentioned...just dont drop the claybar in dirt.

clay barred my mx and found it removed nothing.Waste of time is what I posted at the time.
However I had not had the car long and looking back I think Penfold Mazda's detailer had probably given the car a good detail as it looked new though it is a 2002 model. Maybe no crud to remove.

Hey, I think you raided my car cabinet in my garage. Looks just like the stuff I have in my gear.

Have fun with the claybar. As already mentioned, make sure you half the bar. It's all you'll need.

Claybar! Is it worth doing?

I just finished detailing my step mothers Lylac Toyota Starlet... Holy potato Batman! it works!!!

The car had not been washed for months, so i took it to the local DIY car wash, came home then... 1. Claybarred the car using maguiars Quickclay and Quickpolish. 2. Used a Polyglaze Cut&Polish which was sitting in the cupboard gathering dust. 3. Finished it off with Maguiars Carnauba Wax.

The car looks new, cant wait to see what it does to my already shiny 5! I will only really do it to clear off all the rough stuff, shine will be an added bonus!

Pics on request, starlets are not exactly all that worth seeing.

My personal recommendation...unless your MX5 is really faded, I'd avoid using Cut & Polish. That thing cuts through the paint.

oooo, even more excited about doing mine now, just need to get to the friggin car wash

Hammer, Not going to C&P the 5, that was only for the starlet, needed it badly. As stated above my 5 has been polished with a buffer just under 2 weeks ago.
