NA Amp Placement

I'm trying to find a spot to install my amp in my '93 NA, to power my door speakers. I'm trying to avoid using the boot since there's no room in there already, and the extra wiring to and from the dash is going to be a pain.

I'm wanting to put it under passenger seat if I can, but it looks like there's bugger-all room underneath it. It's an Audison SRx 2, and its dimensions are 36x22x6cm. I'm going to try pulling the seat in the next few days and trying fitment that way, but if someone who already know's it won't fit can save me the trouble, that'd be appreciated

If that won't work, I'm thinking of mounting it behind the passenger seat instead. Is there anything behind that carpet I should be concerned about drilling into?

Not much room below the seat, particularly if you want to still be able to move it.
Plenty of room behind though.

Not 100% but I'm pretty sure the fuel tank lives between the seat and the boot, so probably not the best place to go drilling. I mounted the brain unit for my head unit there and simply attached it to the carpet with four little velcro tabs.

Between your cabin and the boot is your fuel tank I wouldn't recommend doing it there unless you can see behind or feel or know for sure that you have enough room I'd suggest not to drill or screw there

Why not mount it in your boot?

Altho the NA boot is slightly different I believe heres my SRx3 in my NB boot

You might be able to use the holes that the little plastic pins go into that hold the carpet on behind the seats. It's awfully close to the fuel tank though. I'd recommend taking that panel off to see what kind of clearance you can get on the other side of the holes. That'd be pretty adventurous though as you'd have to remove a lot of trimming to be able to remove that panel.

Is there any space under the dash near the glove box?

velcro it to the carpet behind one of the seats as Jeo described. the previous owner did this in my car and it's quite effective and secure even tho it sounds pretty dodgy. i'm one of those electronics nuts who does everything properly and i haven't found a need to change the setup despite rewiring the whole setup.

I had the same problem and resigned myself to putting it in the boot attached to my sub box. Actually the sub box takes up the entire boot so I had to move the space saver behind my passenger seat. Oh and then there is the computer in the boot connected to the touch screen which is now in the dash running the GPS and music/video software I wrote... MP3 head units are so early 2000's hehehe

Also Have a look at putting some speakers on the parcel shelf. It helps a lot! I made up some speaker boxes with some round 6" PVC tubing, just Sealing the back and putting the hook side of the Velcro all over it so it sticks to the carpet. Works perfectly.

Jeo, Althought you havent lost too much boot 'space' with your amp placement, you probably wont be able to put things onto of it while using the amp for long periods....The amp I used to run in my NA (similar placement) melted its shape into the bottom of my work bag after a 10min drive to work....amp was running a sub mind you

There was a good two week stint there where my car cover lived squashed in the boot all day every day, only coming out to go on the car at night. But even now I throw a large nike kit bag straight on top of the amp, twice a week for a 20 minute drive each way to and from training. I've thought about the heat a couple of times but haven't ever noticed anything.

What kind of amp were you running?
Mine is 4x150wrms, driving the front splits and an 8" sub.

I was running a 2 x 100w amp bridged, powering a 10" sub. I had the gain turned a fair way up...On long drives the that amp would turn itself off because of heat. First time it did that I was thinking wtf, until I tried touching it...

Here's mine in the NB, only takes a minute to remove it for track days etc.



Now sure what i'm going to do with the NA, I still have a 407 from when I ran 4x 8"s in the NB and I have another one of these cheapie Clarion Amps.
