Differences between NA8/NB8A gasket kits?

Postby Damo » Fri Feb 06, 2009 1:50 pm

I've been trying to order a head gasket kit for my NB8A. First time around an NA6 kit was sent that was promptly returned before I picked it up.

Second time my friend and I began to get ready to put everything back together to find that all but the inlet manifold gasket seemed to be right. On the inlet manifold gasket, the port holes lined up but the bolt holes did not. Would this have been the NA8 kit? Can anyone confirm whether all the other parts (head gasket, cam cover gasket, exhaust gasket) are the same? I am getting the kit cheap but if I can't get the right one and all the other gaskets are the same I'll just pick up the inlet gasket from MX-5 factory since you'd think that they'd at least be able to get me the right one!

Or maybe it'll be third-time lucky...

Sounds like an NA8 kit, I don't know about the stud locations but the NB head has different intake ports than the NA8s.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

top & bottom stud locations are different, hence if you use an NA8 manifold on an NB8A head replacement on an NA8 engine you need to redrill top stud locs & weld a bar across the bottom for the different stud locs.

I'd forgotten that the NB8A head needs new holes added if put on an NA8. I guess that makes it pretty obvious. Thanks for the replies. I have ordered the NB8A inlet gasket and will use the others. So I suppose I'll have an NA8 inlet gasket if anyone needs one.
