Claybar! Is it worth doing? Hell Yes! *Pics Pg 4*

Right o, i got my car back from being buffed the other day. It looks great, most swirls are gone and it glows.

That's all well and good, but, it still picks up dust like a sponge, also i felt a car that had been claybarred recently and the paint work felt significantly smoother than my own.

Does anyone have a brand preference of claybar? I am also wanting to know what to use with it, i assume you need some kind of lubricant for it to glide over?

Buy the Meguiars Claybar kit from Stupid Cheap - it has all you need.

And yes it is worth it.

Its very well worth it... Stick your hand in a plastic bag, and then run you hand over the car. You will feel heaps of crap that is on your paint. Claying will get rid of most of it... I just use the Mothers claying kit, you get a bottle of quick detailer, and the clay bar. They say to use the quick detailer as lube when claying , but soapy water is your best bet. Just mix some car wash with water and run the clay over your car, make sure you have planty of water on your panels soo the clay glides and dosnt stick.

I swear by it. I use the meguiar's stuff, that comes as a kit (spray polish - Quik Detailer - and clay bar). And after I use it, my car's panels feel soooooo smoooth.

Looks like im making a trip down to super crap. Dick did do a good job buffing it, but he never clay barred it. It's still rough.

Thats a worry, most professional detailer would properly clean/ clay the paint first before they buff it.

Are you sure that he didn't do it? Was it because he was in a bit of a hurry to get it out for you?

Possibly using a good quality wax could reduce your problem. I've never seen the need for a clay bar as long as you use a good polish and wax (carnauba) and are prepared to use a bit of elbow grease. Although un doubtably it does work, I've just never seen the need to. Most people into that sort of stuff who feel the paint of mine think I have used a clay bar...

Try it once, and you'll swear by it.

So long as you're using a good lubricant with it, it works better than simply polishing, and with less than half the effort. All you need is to glide the clay with minimal pressure over the body panel, as opposed to the usual rubbing and harder pressures needed by polishing/waxing.

Though after the claybar, I'd still recommend, the car gets waxed, but do not require as much elbow grease.

PS. Be careful not to drop the clay bar onto dirt. If this happens, might as well chuck the whole thing.

Cheyne, when I viewed mine up in QLD it had just been clay barred that day. It looked absolutely amazing. It almost glowed. Even when I do one of my 8 hour detailing days it doesn't come up as well. I've been meaning to claybar for a while. :-D
