Best way to fix paint damage to front bar?

i would say either touch it up and buff it out, or sand down the area and respray.

that's kinda what I was thinkin' but the process involved is something I don't know much about!

I've got a pressure can of paint ready to roll.

So far I reckon the steps would be to;

1. sand down area and smooth it out

2. mask off surrounding areas around the damage then spray on some primer

3. spray damaged area body colour

4. light sand and polish area to make it look good again

5. sit back and enjoy beer whilst admiring my expertise in paint repair

I've lost a bit of paint in my air intake due to a tow truck driver, the paint cracked then began to peel. What you've described above is what I'm going to do in the next week or so.

Looks like it could use some filler in there doesn't it? A small amount of bog never hurt anyone

Also, use plastic specific primer/undercoat. Otherwise the paint will literally peel off once it has dried.

I have something similar on the back bumper, was quoted $200 to fill, rub back, respray to match.
Car is classic red.
This is done at your own home in the garage. The local Ford dealership use them to do all pre delivery repairs.
The also do alloy rims,stone chips, scratches, vinyl repairs, plastic welding etc.

The way I do it is essentially no different to how it is described elsewhere in this post, and in countless books on DIY paint-n-panel repair. However, the first time I ever tried it it was a mess. Practice has just made it easier.

Nah, steam cleaned them, and the dog while i was at it. but no seriously they came out really new. For example the once gunmetal grey mx5 embroidery was actually gold. Who would have known, going to do a write up on it soon.

Unc Arthur is spot on. The diy books - try your library at no charge to borrow- gives you lots of info. I was told many years ago that painting is 90% preparation ( and patience)
