REplacing Na6a AFM ?

Just a quick one . . .

Do the Na8a and Na6a AFMs interchange ?

my Na6a one is in the big-ass air box and if i wanted to go to a cold-air setup i'd need to change this to a smaller AFM ... the Na8a one looks about right :-)

no they don't interchange.

you can use your na6 afm with a cold air intake, everybody else does. your afm can be detached from the airbox. have a look at all the photos of cold air intakes on this forum and you'll see what i mean.

can you interchange if you move to an aftermarket ECU? or would that be pointless because a MAP makes more sense?

yeah i reckon a map sensor would make more sense in that case.

or you can use an RX7 afm which is slightly larger, & transplant your NA6 internals into it to get a factory like idle.

yeah but why would you bother? the na6 afm is not restrictive in most applications, unless you have done some pretty serious mods in other areas (forced induction or fully built hi-comp atmo engine).

it's like washing & vacuuming your car - it feels faster :P

iirc, Matty's free flowing article mentioned some gain which was offset by an pretty ordinary idle when he replaced the NA6 AFM with an RX7 AFM without swapping the internals. I don't necessarily disagree with you, but sometimes it's the journey & sometimes it's the destination, or both :)

yeah , it's fun to tinker and i often fiddle with things that may end up offering no tangible benefit... but you never know until you try it out.

Fatty mentioned earlier in this thread about using a stock AFM ....

I havnt had a chance to look at mine closely (its around 1000klm south of me at the moment 8) )

Is it easy to separate from the air-box ?

Kazjim, hillsend used an 1986-1988 series 4 RX7 AFM, but according to N*Power a series 5 can also be used.

This is the one hillsend had for sale in the ebay link from his thread linked above:

Comes complete with a pod filter adaptor as shown.
