Harry's Diner changed hands and only opens one or two nights per week.

Rob, the only way to get something like this happening is to just do it, hold it every week (or fortnight) regardless of WHO turns up, be it 3 or 30.
Andrew wanted it to happen, but hasn't followed through with any sort of regularity, state a time & place for this event & stick to it. somebody has to be the mainstay & be there every time.
rolling your eyes & saying "I tried" doesn't cut it, ask Fatty or one of the other Vic guys how they started out, you'll find it was much the same thing to start with.
imagine if the chapter leaders in the QLD club had the same attitude??.............."oh well, only 3 cars turned up for this run, not much point continuing with club runs now, I tried"...........there would be no Gold Coast Chapter, PM Jules & ask him how many cars used to turn up in the early days of the GC chapter.
grow a backbone boys & stick it out, it might become a big part of the QLD MX-5 scene
Don't worry about what people think, they don't do it very often

hot rodders is pretty much the mainstay man of our vic meets. i beleive fig started it with hot rodders, it but fig doesn't have a '5 anymore so i've only met him once. i am a recent blow in and i don't go along anywhere near as often as some of the other guys, like meanmx for example. but yeah you only need a small group of dedicated guys like rodders, meanmx, fartfreddy etc to show up every week and then others (like me) will come and go from time to time. sometimes there is only a handful of people, other times we've had more than 20 turn up. it's a really cool thing and i always enjoy myself , and i have the "regulars" to thank for that as they keep it ticking over when lazy people like me can't be bothered / are too busy / or whatever else. and their regular attendance encourages others to attend more regularly too. for example bensale, cheyne, littik are all relatively new to the mx5 scene but they show up almost every week. as aj said, if you really wanna make it happen 2 or 3 people need to make the commitment to show up every week regardless of if anyone else comes, or not. it'll soon grow, trust me.

Fatty I just hope you guys in Melbourne know how lucky you are to have a place like the garage...
The biggest hurdle that we need to overcome is the location of the venue..Nothsiders like north and southsiders like the south and westie's?
With all the roadwork in and around brissie people are reluctant to travel too far especially if they have to drive from one side of town to the other.
Harrys is barely open twice a month(special functions only of an evening) but they are open for lunch during the week...The Fooly Sik crowd seems to have wreaked it again.I am enjoying the quiet of no more burn out comps leaving the venue
I agree with AJ (that hurts )of the build it and they will come....BUT the question is Where?

oh yes, we know it's a great venue. hopefully you guys can find somewhere suitable, i doubt you'll ever be lucky enough to stumble on something like the garage caf but just keep looking and hopefully something will turn up. it seems like there is enough initial interest to get the ball rolling, even if it's only a very small group to begin with, it WILL grow.

I'd be keen to attend when I can, but you can't count on me to be available on a regular basis due to work commitments.

I did this: , because hardly anyone even replied to my original post, positive, negative, or suggestive.
Due to changes in circumstance, I am now working shifts and therefore shouldn't be the one organising this anymore if I can't even turn up to things I organise.
I don't really mind it of only a few turn up (of course the more the merrier), as a couple of times it has only been less than 3 turn up to the nightly mountain runs. [just on that note, THAT is going by the wayside too]
I agree that whilst all of us prefer to stay within their own 'hood, I am happy to drive 20-or-so minutes to meet up, and driving around Brisbane after 7pm is not a chore.
Rob, you have PM.
