Even though the light works on the demister switch you may need the relay in the boot - I did & I've read elsewhere that others have also needed it.

It's easy to check, just remove the black plastic panel inside the boot immediately behind the rear number plate. Then check if an IMASEN LA10 relay is fitted to the existing spare plug in the wiring situated in the space approximately in the bottom centre of where the panel was. If not, then a horn relay will do (see relay next to the one circled in pic below). I believe the LA10 is also used for another relay somewhere in the engine bay.

I found out when the demister seemed to be taking a very very long time to demist the back window.

Ahhh yes 93_Clubman, you're right.

Totally forgotten about the relay in the location you mentioned. And in addition to the relay, there's also the fuse for the rear demister.

As I fitted both the relay and fuse earlier on, I've totally forgotten abouth them when I finally installed the rear demister switch, the following week. I'll take some pix and update my write-up. Thanks for reminding me.

My car didn't come with the relay but the relay plug was there. Luckily for me Mania had a 2nd hand one. And the rear demister fuse is located in the battery compartment in the boot. It shares the same fuse holder as the electric aerial. On my NA8 it's already there, and wired. Just waiting for a fuse to be inserted. But David from Mania told me he's seen some NAs without this which would have meant an additional task. Lucky for me mine already did.

IMO, I think the location of both relay & fuse for the rear demister is silly. You would have thought they'd fit the fuses in the fuse box under the dash and the relay under the bonnet where the rest of the relays are. I wonder if Mazda had weight saving in mind when they decided to place these where they are in the car. Maybe locating them there is saving weight & cost (less wiring needed).

Likewise the fuse holder - though must check re the fuse - I know there was one in there for the electric aeriel & assumed that doubled for the demister.

Indeed, location of relay & fuse does seem like a bit of an afterthought.

Btw, in addition to the horn, an LA10 relay is also used for the cooling fan in the engine bay main fuse box.

Thats awesome that the demister just worked for you. So much nicer without the stuffing about.

I hadn't even thought of having to wire up a demister switch for my hardtop. I mean it makes perfect sense, (how else would it turn on?) I'd just never actually though about it.

I've been busy with my Clubbie. It seems her name is slowly changing from Ruby to Ginger. Long story...

Here's some update, but I have to say, this time around these updates are more for personalisation/individuality reasons, rather than performance enhancing.

I acquired a couple of 2nd hand JDM Mazda OEM "Roadster" chrome sills from the US. They were a little ratty, marked and dirty, but with some elbow grease and metal polish, I got most of it out. But there are still some marks throughout.

Still on my personalisation/individualisation path of my Clubbie. I've fitted a brushed aluminium fuel cover. Though I'm now pondering how much 10ths of a second all this bling this will slow me down in Wakefield? :mrgreen:

While at MX5 Mania picking up some stuff last week, I got Ajay to custom make me some decals to fit along the top of my windscreen and the rear window of the hardtop.

Apart from some Mazdaspeed decals, I also got my alias "Hammer" made using the Mazda font. So if you see a red NA with "Hammer" on the windscreen/rear window, driving around Sydney, wave. :mrgreen:

Being red it needs a big hexagon with "STOP" written on the bonnet, then "HAMMERTIME" on the windscreen :mrgreen:

What a great little car.
It's so good to see that there are people out there like you who will look after an older car and keep it in tip top condition.
It will be a true classic one day!

After having owned a Clubman many years ago, I agree with you about the power steering.
Lou does a very good P/S conversions, and his prices are also very cheap.

Even after having an SP, the NA8's are still a ball of fun to drive, as are the NA6's.
Have fun in it.

Totally agree. I've been searching in vein for someone that has stock locally. Mania are ordering some but I was told their usual supplier from OS is out of stock and they're finding other suppliers at the moment. :frown:

So my search continues.
