Well, wheres the MX5 Factory sticker on your filter case? They used to put one on there didn't they?

If Fast freddy didn't offer me such a good price I would have gone DIY as well. These aren't particularly hard to make and I think both Mania and Mx5factory rip you off. In fact it was the price of the intake that really put me off The Mx5factory in the first place. It has definately improved since the early days when it looked like an empty paint can with a hose coming out. For the same price roughly I would have easily opted for the K&N Apollo kit. However great write up. Your theories on why yours is a better intake than the mania one though leaves a bit to be desired. Good on you for putting in the effort

Well basically im just going by logic. Bigger pod, better induction. Better quality pod, better filtration of air. Is that not right? In terms of asthetic difference, it is debatable, and im not a fan of the tubing on the mx5factory intake. There, make sense?

As for the sticker, i mentioned that i relocated it to the front of the engine bay.

I went over that before, its 500 inclusive of gst. Yeah i know.

And i know bigger is not always better, but the actual filter itself is worth 200 bucks. Dont know what the other 250 covers :S

Wow, for $500 you could get BMC CDA, which IMO the best filter out there...but hey, as long you are happy with it.

K&N is $200-$220 around there [ note that it's universal, so you'll probably have to make your own mounts]

the big thing id look at chaing is the pipe going across the front of the motor.

next hot day... today even or after a little bit of enthusiastic driving pop the bonnet put your hand on the intake pipe going across the front of the car and rev the engine.

dont know if my cars standard one was dodgy but it almost sucked its self shut.. well not quiet but it deffinatly restricted air flow as it couldnt stand up to the vacume of the motor.

as far as im concerned when it comes to air filters bigger is better its the pipe length and Dia which may not be bigger is better but as for filtering the larger the filter the less the restriction will be.

Must check as I've got an NB8 cross pipe which is more pliable than the NA8 cross pipe.
