GS's NA6
Hi. Ive been floating around this forum for a few years now, so i thought its about time that i started a thread for my car.
I bought my 1989 NA6 in early 2004. Looked at a few, and this one fitted my requirements the best - stock, clean, lowish k's (134k), hardtop, a/c. Co-incidently, according to the log books the original owners address was the same building that ive been working in for the last 7 years!! Drove it for a couple of years, then got the power bug and decided i wanted a project. Put some money aside and bought and installed a second hand turbo kit that came up on the forum as the first step in putting together a nice, well rounded package.
However, things changed and my "build a kick a**e MX5" fund became the "buy my girlfriend some finger bling" fund. Of course this then merged into the "deposit on a unit" account, then the "big day" and "round the world honeymoon" accounts.
So basically my cars been sitting in the garage for the last 3 years and gets the occasional run every few weeks. Think its done about 4000k's in the last 4 years
Anyhow, current specs are:
* TD04 turbo, cast manifold of unknown origin
* Intercooler - (bought a Stripes pipe kit for a Greddy, and cut and shut it to fit my set up)
* 1.8 injectors, 190hp fuel pump and Begi AFPR
* AEM Wideband O2 gauge
* 2.5 catback exhaust
* GFB plump back valve
* King spings and 17in Lenso's
Things in the garage waiting to be fitted:
* NB8A wheels (going to paint them black, and still deciding what tyres to get)
* KYG AGX shocks and FCM bumpstops
Once these are done the plan is to get an ECU fitted and emissions tested. Then 1.8 brakes and torsen, Sparco seat, rollbar etc.
Hopefully I can get this build back on track soon and start updating the thread. In the meantime heres some pics of my baby.

I miss my NA6T.
I also had the same progression of "funds". Still in the "big day fund" at the moment.
Looks good so far, I'll keep an eye on this thread for updates.

Thanks Boags. I was thinking of going down the turbo path around the same time Fatty, UA and yourself were all doing a similar thing. So your build definately inspired me to do go down that route. Judging by the posts in the Cars For Sale page, plenty of guys have had to sell there modded MX5 when other expenses have become a priority. Rather than do that i just decided to hold off doing any work on it for a while, and just not drive it much. Its been tough though.
ps. good luck with your plans. Its all worth it in the long run.

I just like the look of white NAs with dark alloys. It just ties the black roof etc nicely.
Yeah, im a fan of the "panda" look on the NA as well. White body, black hardtop, gunmetal or black wheels (id love some 15in Watanabe's), and a black front lip spoiler (factory or Garage Vary) to toughen it up a bit.

Yeah, I've been looking for a 2nd hand OEM front lip spoiler for the NA to no avail. I found one that is selling an identical copy but they're made out of fiber glass. I prefer the ABS plastic finish of the original.
In the end, I've ordered a new one from MX5 Mania. It might take a while though as they will order minimum of 5 of these at a time to save on freight.
But if you know where I can get them 2nd hand, let me know.

Yeah, i know what you mean. My priority is function over form at the moment, but i still keep an eye out if a 2nd hand OEM lip comes up for a good price. Once almost got one on eBay a while back but was outbid at the end. Think it went for around $200?? You very really seem them come up though. I think there was a group buy years ago on the forum for them through Mania, but i cant remember how much people paid.
When Okibi's cheap red NA6 came up for sale in WA recently the thought did cross my mind about grabbing it just for the wheels and front lip. Then i started thinking about the logistics of getting it back to Sydney and i went cold on the idea pretty quickly. Dont need another old NA gathering cobwebs!!
Definately dont like the idea of a fibreglass copy due to the likelihood of it cracking if it took a knock. The OEM ABS finish not only looks better but would also be a lot more flexible.

Nice Na. I particularly like the contrasting black hardtop with white paint.
Not a fan at all of mx5's with hardtops being all the same colour as
the body panels.
I, am keeping an eye out for a black hardtop for my car, to go with
green body panels.
Cheers Novice1
