Had my A/C fixed

Aren't we all whingers now about A/C.

I remember back in 1974 when I had A/C put into my SLR 5000, and my father went off at me for spending so much money on something so useless.
He said he's been driving for 20 years and never had A/C and never needed it, and he went on and on about it.
Then one day, a few weeks after I had it fitted, he and I had to go somewhere together, and being a hot day, I took my car and naturally, had the A/C running the whole time.
2 weeks later my father went out and bought a new car, and of course, he had A/C in it and now he couldn't live without it.

They put some special dye into the gas and checked for leaks.

I don't think they are magicians as such, but they did the job on the spot and it worked out well for me.
They mainly do electrical work, so you can get your driving lights fitted at the same time!

Ohh, that's too far out of the way for me. Is there anyone that is good like that around the North Ryde/Lane Cove area?

I've got no problems not having it.

I had A/C on my first car (KA ford laser). It didn't work. It was parked outside 24/7 because it obviously was nowhere near as new as our other cars.

The A/C on my current '5 ran out because I didn't use it for something like 8 months. The main reason I'm using the A/C now is just to make sure the gas doesn't fizzle before its time is up. I didn't use the A/C today either.

That same goes with power-steering.

My first car was a second hand VH SS Brock Commodore and it had 9" wheels all round without power-steering. To me it felt normal driving it and thought that Power-steering is just a waste of money. It was certainly not something I would have ticked on the options list.

Then came my 2nd car (Toyota Celica) 3yrs later, and it came with power-steering, and I was converted. It's something that I now expect from a new car as standard, just like A/C. I'm seriously contemplating retro-fitting power-steering to my newly acquired Clubman.

I actually drove that clubman when i was looking to buy a 5, if my budget had only stretched a little bit further... anyway, it seriously doesn't need it, I have a roadster now with p/s and between the two there is very little difference if any.

Besides, why buy a clubman in such good condition then add they very thing that it didn't have in the 1st place that defines the car as a clubman?

Obviously its completely Hammers choice with what he does with his car, just my 2c

Were these Clubman thingies a budget version of the 5? They didn't seem to come with any goodies.

No, it wasn't that. They were a limited edition release by Mazda supposedly for club racing. Hence a lot of the little luxuries like, A/C, powersteering and headrest speakers were removed from the car, to save weight.

However as standard items, it got stiffer (Bilstein) suspension bigger sway bars & limited slip diff - things you'd normally need for track days. :mrgreen:

thanks MX5 racing for the technical comments and Garry's acknowledgment on NB versus NC. Benny is right of course that today we all expect a/c. I once fitted an under dash unit to a Valiant for a Xmas trip to QLD and the difference was heaven. I would not buy a car without it.
